Buoyancy

Volume of displaced liquid = volume of object submerged = Buoyant Force

Archimedes Principle:
Magnitude of Buoyant Force = Weight of fluid displaced by object = weight of the displaced
Fb = Wo float

Fb Wo sink

*Buoyant Force is always directed upward

Density & Buoyant Force
-The apparent weight of submerged object depends on the density of the object.
For object with density (o) submerged in a fluid of density (f), the buoyant force (Fb) obeys the ff. ratio:

Fo
Fb

Fb = weight in air apparent weight in liquid

Fb = loss of weight of an object = weight of fluid displaced
Therefore,
Weight of object in air
Volume of object in air

Spgr =

**Vobject in air = Vdisplaced water

Ideal Fluid
A fluid with no internal friction or viscosity (doesnt offer resistance to flow)
Incompressible (the same velocity even when subjected to pressure)
Exhibits non-turbulent flow (laminar flow: moves smoothly and freely)
