ACHS

IMPORTANT NOTES
ACHS Athletics
During the next weeks, over
25% of our students will be active in our winter sports program. With December comes
the opening of the basketball
season. Our girls will take the
court after a record year last
year. They recorded the most
wins in school history. Cheerleaders are busy designing routines and cheers to support our
athletes. The boys basketball
program will see if they can
quality for the NJSIAA Central
Jersey Group 1 state playoffs for
the 13th year in a row.
In the spring, our girls and
boys track teams will take to the
track and field to represent the
Panthers. They too have been
represented by athletes who
qualified for NJSIAA Group 1
meets. We look to see who will
qualify this year. Also, the baseball team returns to the diamond in search of more victories
as players earn spots to play in
college.
Most importantly our student
athletes get to be a part of
teams where success is defined
by teamwork not individual successes. Through sports, students develop skills of persistence, cooperation, communication and interpersonal relations.
Get the schedules off our website. We hope to see you there!

SENIOR PROJECTS : All our seniors are
engaged in service learning through their
senior projects. Each student designed a
project meaningful to them. One group
renewed the Halloween Haunted Hallway
and entertained (and scared) the community. Other students organized a blood
drive that collected 37 pints for the American Red Cross! Seniors organized donations for Pennies for Patients to raise funds
for the Leukemia / Lymphoma Society.
Students have also raised awareness for
breast cancer and healthy living for youth.
The students raise not only money but
also educate the community.
SATURDAY SCHOOL: The staff and students who volunteer for the Saturday
School Committee have brought some outstanding programs and speakers to ACHS.
This year we have already enjoyed the
Chinese Acrobats, a Harlem Globetrotter
and Mr. Strong Man. The community of
Lake Como extended their thanks for our
work on Make A Difference Day cleaning
up around the lake. Mentoring groups
went all out for the ACHS scavenger hunt
and students designed out athletic teams
shirts. Our students used their knowledge
of government to propose laws for
ACHS. We look forward to what is next!

HOMEWORK CENTER: A supervised, afterschool homework center is available for the

students every week Monday Wednesday. A
free late bus will take the students home at
5:00 pm. Other students, staying after school
in supervised activities, may also use the bus.
Any student who stays late must sign up for
the after-school activity prior to fourth block
APPLICATIONS : We are accepting applications for next years lottery. Please refer your
friends and family to the school. Students who
bring in a completed application receive a free
uniform shirt! Dont forget that siblings of students are automatically accepted to the school
only if their application is received by the deadline. All applications must be received by December 23, 2014. Applications may be obtained
from the main office (phone, fax or mail) or
may be completed online at our website
www.academycharterhs.org. We have included
one for you to pass on!
PSAT: All of our sophomores and juniors took
the PSAT last month here at ACHS. The test
provides experience and preparation for the
SAT test required by most colleges.
COLLEGE VISITS: Ms. Zambrano and Mrs.
Hughes have been hitting the road with the
Class of 2015. The students have been preparing and submitting college applications and the
acceptances are starting to roll in. Now comes
the time to make those important decisions
regarding where they will continue their studies
next year. To help them with this our staff
have taken students to visit Delaware State
University, Franklin & Marshall College, Bloomfield College and New Jersey City University.
Visiting the campuses gives our students the
opportunity to get a better feel for the school
environment.
As we reflect on all for which we are thankfulwe
thank you for entrusting us with your children
and for becoming part of the ACHS family

CHILD FIND : Academy Charter High

School is interested in assisting any child
between the ages of 14 and 21, including
migrant and homeless children, who are
experiencing difficulties academically, socially or behaviorally. If you feel that your
child is in need of assistance please contact Mrs. Megan Sherman, Director of
Special Services at 732-681-8377 Ext 30.
DRESS CODE: Students and their families are reminded that even though the
temperature has plummeted, all students
must be in dress code while in school.
This means Khakis and a charter shirt or
other school logo clothing. Sweaters,
hoodies, scarves and other outerwear are
not to be worn. Students should plan
ahead. Long sleeve shirts and jackets
may be purchased if necessary.
EXCUSED ABSENCES: Please remember
that students who have over ten unexcused absences for the semester lose
credit in their class(es). Saturdays count
as regular school days. Please provide the
main office all doctors notes or other
documentation which can excuse an absence. All parents/guardians should call
the school to report a student absent.
