Objectives
Thegoalforthisprofessionaldevelopmentisforthestaffatthemiddleschoollevels
becomemorefamiliarwiththetechnologiesthatareavailabletothem,specificallythe
interactivewhiteboards.Thedistricthaspurchasedtheseinteractivewhiteboards,but
manyteachersarenotusingthemthewaytheyareintendedtobeused.
1. Teacherswillgetabasicunderstandingoftheinteractivewhiteboardsandwhat
theyarecapableof.
2. Teacherswillreceivetrainingthatisspecifictotheirsubjectandlevelofcomfort
withnewtechnology.
3. Teacherswillincorporateuseofinteractivewhiteboardsintotheirdailylessons
overthecourseofayear.
Learners
Thelearnerswillbeallcoreteachersatthemiddleschoollevel,6th8thgrade.Elective
teacherswillbeencouragedtoattendtraining,butwillnotberequired.Teachersvaryin
theirunderstandingoftechnologyanduseofitintheclassroom.Allteachersshould
havesomebasicknowledgeofcomputers,astheyusethisforgradingandsubmitting
documentationthroughtheschool.
Location
Theintroductiontotheinteractivewhiteboardswilltakeplaceatourcentraloffice
location.Therearemanyroomsthatcanbescheduledforspecifictrainingby
administrators,instructors,andotherdistrictpersonnelatourdistrictcentraloffice.
Whentrainingbecomesmorespecific,theprofessionaldevelopmentwilltakeplaceon
campusintheassignedProfessionalLearningCommunity(PLC)room.

throughouttheschoolyear.Ondayswhereteacherswillreceiveresourcesandsample
lessons,thisinformationwillbesharedwithadministratorsanddepartmentheads.The
administratorordepartmentheadwillbeinchargeofsharingthisinformationwith
facultyandstaffonassignedProfessionalLearningCommunity(PLC)days.
Obstacles
Therewillbetheexpectationofpushbackfromteacherswhofeelthattheirlessonsare
effectiveasis.InstructionalTechnologyCoordinatorswillprovidethebenefitsanddata
behindincorporatingtheuseofinteractivewhiteboards,theywillalsodiscussthe
multiplelearningstylestheywillbereachingthroughuse.Itisnotexpectedthatevery
lessonwillbenefitfromsolelyusingtheinteractiveaspectofthewhiteboard,butthatit
hasbenefitsinsomeareasifusedcorrectly.
Teacherswillalsobringvariedlevelsofexperienceusingtechnologyandtheinteractive
whiteboards,wehopetoencourageandprovidespecificfeedbackafterobserving
lessonsthroughouttheschoolyear.ThiswillallowtheInstructionalTechnology
Coordinatorstocreatelessons,findresources,andadjusttrainingtomeettheneedsof
theteachers.
