(Load Calculations)

Permanent load calculations:

For frames (1, 3, 4 and 8) containing perimeter beams, the self-weight of the slab portion was taken into
account as a UDL. Other permanent loads are taken into account by the software. The self-weight of
concrete = 25.0 kN/m3.
An additional load accounting for floor finishes and ceiling loads was taken as 1.0 kN/m 2.

Block wall calculations (In toilet region):

Density of 200 mm wide cellular block wall = 3.5 kN/m2

Height of wall = 3550 mm
Dimension of slab considered: 10750 x 8200 mm. (Enclosed by frames 2, 7 and 8)

Area of floor = (10.75 x 7.45) m2 = 88.15 m2

For floor 1, 3 and 5:
Perimeter length of wall = 2 (7450 + 5900) mm = 26.7 m
Length of interior separations = (8 x 1600) mm + (6 x 900) mm = 18.2m
Total length of block wall = 45 m
Total weight of block wall = 3.5 x 3.55 x 45 = 559.1 kN
The load is assumed as a uniform pressure on the floor slab, so that the pressure = (559.1/ 88.15) kN/m 2 =
6.35 kN/m2
The same conservative value is adopted for floors 2 and 4.
The floor is 2-way spanning with aspect ratio 1.4. The load is hence a triangular load on the shorter side
and a trapezoidal load on longer side.
Results:

1. On shorter side, load is a triangular load with peak value at mid-span = (6.35 x 8.2 x 0.5) = 26
kN/m
This was approximated to a UDL of 2/3rd the actual value i.e. a UDL of 17.4 kN/m.
Factored UDL = 23,5 kN/m
2. On longer side, load is a trapezoidal load, with peak load of 26 kN/m.
Factored peak = 35.1 kN/m.
