PO Box 575 Sanger, CA 93657 (559-930-8829) 16 February 2016 To Whom It May Concern: My name is Winter Lee, and I am a senior at Sanger High School in Sanger, California. My current GPA is 4.2 (weighted), 3.9 (unweighted) with a 1590 SAT, and 24 ACT. By May 2016, I will have taken six AP courses and seven Honors courses. To pursue my goal in medicine, I will attend a four-year
university to study and become a pharmacist.
My interest in medicine was greatly influenced by the many years I spent with my grandmother. My grandmother was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and hypertension in her early 50s. I observed the numerous prescribed pills she took for treatment. I witnessed the wondrous effects of the medications which allowed her to continue her daily activities; however, these medications did not cure her diseases. In thinking about my grandmother and people with chronic diseases, I want to be involved in finding cures and keep them healthy. To further pursue my interest in medicine, I volunteered in the summer of 2014 and 2015 at Bautista Rural Medical Group in Sanger, California, and Bautista Medical Group in Fresno, California, and Rocks Medical Research Institute, Inc. It was such a great experience to shadow Dr. Jose Luis Bautista, M.D. At the medical clinics, I was able to observe and receive hands-on experiences with the intake of patients information (blood pressure, height, weight, and medical history) and learned the importance of doctorpatient relations. A majority of Dr. Bautistas patients were Spanish-speaking, and thanks to my three years of high school Spanish, I was able to converse and collect patient information. At Rocks Medical Research Institute, Inc., I gained important knowledge of how new medications were produced, starting with an idea from the researchers at the pharmaceutical company, FDA requirements, and clinical trials at a research site. I had the opportunity to review clinical trial protocols, interact with patients, and gathered information for data entry. These experiences have fueled my passion to pursue a career in medicine.
