Purpose
Bring awareness to the Trinity River
Help improve Dallas environment
Continue to keep our city beautiful

Problem
Trinity River is one of the major water resources in
Texas
It is also a popular tourist attraction that can bring
people and money to the city
It is being negatively affected on a small scale by
individuals
It is also affected by industrial dumping

Pollution
The Trinity River is the 3rd most polluted river in Texas
The pollution is caused by waste and debris thrown
into the river.
Cleaning up the surrounding area will allow us to help
make a difference while keeping us safe

Plan
One day activity
Volunteers from 6 high schools in the surrounding
Dallas area, recruit volunteers through school
announcements
Pick up trash in areas around the Trinity River
This project will help improve the rivers ecosystem,
and improve the citys image

Sponsor
Waste Management will sponsor our event
Relevant issue for the company
Mutual benefit for company and public
Waste Management will also provide a speaker and
staff to explain safety measures

Success Measures
1. How many people volunteered for our event?

We anticipate 150 volunteers

2. How many kids signed up for the art contest?

We anticipate 200 students

3. How many pounds of trash did we pick up from


around the Trinity River area?

We anticipate 250 pounds of trash

Art Contest
Students split in groups of 10
One adult chaperone per group
Groups will have 3.5 hours
Groups will use given supplies and objects from the
environment
Two winners receive $1000 each
Two consolation prizes of $450 each

Volunteer staff is provided by the high schools' respective parentteacher associations
One parent chaperone per group of 10 students
20-25 volunteers to help with set up and clean up
5 administrators or instructors will serve as coordinators

10 Dallas Police Officers for security

DJ and other entertainment personnel

Conclusion
Dallas Chamber of Commerce is being invited to
donate half of the budgeted cost.
This project will also educate the youth on how littering
negatively affects our city
It also brings awareness to the philanthropic aid by the
Chamber of Commerce getting involved with cleaning
up the river.
It will also provide a good image for the city of Dallas
