ACADEMIC YEAR 2019-20

AVENUE REPORT
COMMUNITY SERVICES
Director – Rtr. Prajwal SC

The Rotaract Club of BMSCE is one of the most recognised student-run club in BMS College of
Engineering. Since its charter year 2014, the club has developed itself and grown in numbers and
fame. The main reason people associate themselves to Rotaract is mainly because of the avenue
of Community Service.

The avenue of community service has indeed been the source of fellowship and networking for
most of the members in any Rotaract Club in any district. Being such an avenue, it has been
actively involving every member that has voluntarily asked to be a part of the club.

To begin with, we conducted Flood Relief Collection Drive for the Uttara Karnataka Floods in
the month of August where supplies and relief items such as clothes, ration and buckets mugs
etc. were collected for the flood hit area. We also celebrated Independence Day at Aruna
Chetana which is a school for specially abled children. There was one-of-a-kind green
walkathon called Green Commute in collaboration with Phaseshift and the Mountaineering club
of BMSCE, it was conducted in Basavangudi, this was conducted to spread awareness among the
people about Renewable Energy and the Environment. A unique programme called Mentorship
Programme, which is aimed at mentoring, guiding and nurturing children at the Swavalmbhi
Trust(R) Orphanage. This programme had 4 sessions which had an aim of “Skills to
Independence”. The various sessions included Public Speaking, Diary writing, Diya Painting,
Safe and Pollution-free Diwali Celebration. We also encouraged them to take part in a
competition after which they were awarded. There was one day given to the elders with the
annual Omashram Visit. We distributed fruits and engaged with the old ones who were left out
in the society. OnePlus company had conducted #RedCableChristmas which collected
donations during christmas, we distributed a bag of these gifts to the children of Swavalambhi
Trust(R). The Second Phase of the Mentorship Programme had begun one the first day of March.
Subsequent sessions were called off as precautionary measures due to prevalent conditions.
This RotaYear 2019-20 has been a busy schedule for the Avenue of Community Services which
engaged all the enthusiastic members of the club. This avenue has lots of potential, hence we are
putting more efforts to gather support for subsequent programmes.
