Vibrating Screen
VIBRATING SCREEN
1.
OBJECTIVE:
To study the operation of vibrating screen.
2.
AIM
To apply screen analysis on vibrating screen and calculated the screen efficiency.
3.
INTRODUCTION:
Vibrating screens are used for separating the solid particles of different sizes
depended on their sizes. If the particle is over sized it retained on the screen, if under
sized it passes down. The vibrations are generated through the pulley connected to a
shaft and moving electrically.
4.
THEORY:
Screening is the separation of a mixture of various sizes of grains into two or more
portions by means of a screening surface. The screening surface may consist of
woven wire, silk or plastic cloth, perforated or punched plate, grizzly bars. Screening
is accomplished by passing the material over a surface provided with openings of the
desired size.
Vibrating screens are those which rapidly vibrated with small amplitude are less
likely to blind than gyrating screens. The vibrations may be generated mechanically
or electrically. Vibrating screens are used as standard practice when large capacity
and high efficiency are desired. Vibrating screens are used where large tonnages are
to be treated. The vibrating motion is imparted to the screen surface by means of
eccentric shafts, unbalanced flywheels, or electromagnetic means. Complete screens
may have a single screening surface, or it may be double or triple decked.

SCREEN EFFICIENCY:
Screen efficiency is the ratio of the amount of undersize obtained to the amount of
undersize in the feed. The efficiency of a screen is a measure of the success of a
screen in closely separating materials A and B.

DESCRIPTION:
The set up consists of three different screen fitted on a rigid M.S. frame, feed hopper,
eccentric etc. Three screens of different sizes are fitted one above the other. The
drives are given from an electric motor.
6.
UTILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Electricity Supply: Single phase, 220 V AC, 50 Hz, 5-15 amp socket with earth
connection.
2. Floor Area Required 1.5 m x 1 m.
3. Raw Material for Feed.
4. Electronics Weighing Balance capacity 2 kg, least count 1 gm.
7.
EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE:
1. Prepare a feed mixture of different sized particles not more than 12 mm and not
less than 4 mm, size should be granular not powder.
2. Fill the hopper with the prepared feed material.
3. Place, all the collection bin under the outlet chute.
4. Give the small feed inlet flow rate using the sliding plate provided behind hopper.
5. When all the material collected apply the material balance on it.
