Air Quality Assignment

Part A: Research
In groups of 2-3, you will find information on ONE of the following
air pollutants. During Wednesdays class, please sign up (as a
group) for one of the pollutants, as each pollutant needs to be
researched by the class.
Ammonia
Hydrocarbons
Nitrogen oxides
Ground level ozone
Particulate matter

carbon monoxide
hydrogen sulphide
sulfur dioxide
polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds)

Report on the following:


1. Factors that control the dispersion and movement of air
pollutants (4)
2. Major sources (3-5)
3. Allowable levels in ppm.
4. Environmental effects (3-5)
5. Health effects (3-5)
6. Possible ways to reduce the amount of the pollutant
Your research should be in point form, but please make detailed notes and
source your information, as you will be handing this in. Include information
for Alberta wherever possible.
Part B: Sources
Please include a list of sources you used for your research. You can use a
textbook, pages 225-228, as well as the Internet to find information. Please
use more than one source and write your sources in MLA format (using
www.citationmachine.net).

Part C: Poster
Create a poster to showcase the information you have found. Include
headings and make it look good!
Part D: Presentation
You will be required to present your poster to the class, to share what you
have found out. Your presentation should be no longer than 5
minutes!
Your research and presentations are due on Friday April 8th.
