What is Matter?

Matter is anything that has mass and takes up
space

Some states of matter can be changed into

different shapes or be manipulated
No matter how much an object changes shape,
the amount stays the same
For example, even when water is poured
into different sized containers, the amount
of water (matter) stays the same

Changing States of Matter

Matter comes in different forms

Two of these are called solids and liquids
Solids are anything that does not change its
shape; you cannot put your hand through a
solid
Liquids change their shape, and can fit into
whatever container it is in; you can put your
hand through a liquid

Even though matter comes in different

states, sometimes an object can change
into a different state of matter
Freezing temperatures or heat make
these objects change states of matter
For example, water (a liquid state)
can change to ice (a solid) when
you put it in the freezer
