Cartwheel Circuit

Station 1- Leg Swings


At station one students will practice swinging their legs across the
body to warm up hip flexors and leg muscles to perform cartwheels.

Station 2- Cartwheel Around a Hoop


At station two students will be given a hoop each on the ground,
which they must perform, cartwheels around. Hands are placed
around the outside of the hoop and body faces out.

Station 3- Cartwheel Around a Curved Line


Students progress from a hula-hoop to a curved line, D on a netball
or basketball court.

Station 4- Cartwheel Over a Bench


Students will start on one side of a bench and place hands on the
bench, cartwheel over the bench and land with two feet on the
ground on the opposite side of the bench.

Station 5- Cartwheel
on a Straight Line
At station 5 students will perform
cartwheels along a straight line,
focusing on starting and finishing on
the line to increase accuracy, stability
and overall performance.

Station 6- Continuous Cartwheels


Students are to perform continuous cartwheels on a mat and see
how many they can perform correctly in a row.

Station Layout and Set Up


According to the layout and available space, the six stations should
be set up similar to the below diagram. The teacher should

supervise from the outside of the stations enabling them to see all
stations at the same time and not limiting their vision by having
their back to athletes. Teacher/coach should aim to walk around the
perimeter and offer feedback and advice and reinforce key teaching
points.
