Dear Farrah Ellison-Moore,
I am a student in the school of Communications at Loyola University Chicago applying to
be a summer orientation leader at Arrupe College. I am a rising senior majoring in Advocacy and
Social Change with a minor in Women Studies and Gender Studies. I am seeking this leadership
position because it would be a valuable experience to serve as a student ambassador for Arrupe
College. My dedication to diversity and my strong work ethic make me a strong candidate for the
position. I am a strong communicator and an advocate for social justice. My various experiences
in student affairs would align cohesively with the desired qualifications.
As a student who has been empowered and impacted by the field of student affairs, I feel
strongly about the Summer orientation position. My mentors throughout my college experience
have empowered me and made my experiences valuable at Loyola. Orientation is one of the first
exposures students have to campus so it is imperative to make their Arrupe orientation valuable
and impactful. I have worked extensively with first-year students for two years through our
University 101 course as a peer advisor. The is a required course for all Loyolas first-year
undergraduate students. I also served as a Student Diversity and Multicultural Affairs leader as a
STARS (Students Together Are Reaching Success) mentor this year where we work with firstyear, first-generation and/or students of color. This experience has been so rewarding as I was
given the opportunity to assist students in their first year of college while also sparking
conversations around identity development.
As a woman of color, I have a passion for working with students of marginalized identities.
I know that Arrupe College engrains its mission in having a diverse population that ensures
affordability, excellence, and justice. I know this experience would add to my desired holistic
Loyola experience. If chosen, I would prefer to work during the weekly program from July 29
th

August 12 .Thank you for your time and consideration. Please let me know if you have any
th

questions or require any more information from me. You can reach me by phone at (312) 6784221; or by email, rgreene1@luc.edu. I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you,
Rachel Greene
