NEWSLETTER MARCH 2010

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are rapidly approaching the end of a very long term. Luckily there are now some
good signs of Spring and hopefully we can look forward to a warmer Easter break.

ROTARY QUIZ
The P7 team consisting of Alanna Bright, Matthew Gerard, Katy Lingwood, Ewan
Simpson and reserve Jack Keely, represented the school in this recent primary
schools’ quiz. They did very well but unfortunately did not get through to the next
round.

SCHOOL MEALS INCREASE

As from week beginning Monday 19th April, school dinners will cost £1.75 per day or
(£8.75 per week). Please try to always pay for meals on a Monday.

INSET DAYS
After the Easter break, school restarts on WEDNESDAY 21ST April for pupils. The
Monday and Tuesday will be training days for staff on Curriculum for Excellence.

CURRICULUM FOR EXCELLENCE EVENING

This evening has been arranged for all parents of Primary Schools in the Carse
area. Information about Curriculum for Excellence will be given by Sheena Devlin
(Head of Education Early Years and Primary) and a spokesperson from Learning and
Teaching Scotland. St Madoes will have a stand showing some work done this year
on Curriculum for Excellence. This will take place at Errol Primary School from
6.30pm on Thursday 25th March.

CEOP TRAINING FOR PARENTS

An evening was held at Errol Primary for this training about the dangers for all pupils
using the internet, games and emailing. Unfortunately it was very poorly attended.
This a very important area of learning for pupils which starts in P1 and parents need
to be aware of what their children are doing on their computers at home. Children will
be taught in school each year how to be safe on the internet and how to report
abuse. We will run another workshop for parents in the future, however we cannot
rely on the input and information from the police that was present at the Errol
training.

HEAD LICE
Once again there have been several cases of headlice in classes. Please check your
child’s head frequently and if any nits are found, treat with medication from the
chemists or on prescription from your doctor.
DAFFODIL TEA
This was a most successful morning and has raised approximately £800. Many
thanks to the Fundraising Committee of the Parent Council and also to the many
parents and staff who helped before and on the day. The next fund raising event is a
Quiz Night on Monday 29th March in the Glencarse Bowling Club at 7.30pm.

SCHOOL UNIFORM ORDER

Order forms for sweatshirts, fleeces, jackets etc will be handed out to each family at
the beginning of next term. There is a wide variety of items available now and Mrs
Norrie has samples for viewing if required. We are always delighted at how well
turned out our pupils are in their school uniforms. Thank you for making such a big
effort to make the children look so smart.

EASTER EGG COMPETITION

We will hold our usual egg decorating competition next week. Pupils may buy a hard
boiled egg from school for 10p and these will be decorated in school during the Art
lesson. The theme this year will be a Scottish historical character. Please send in
10p as soon as possible to cover the cost of this.

TAKE YOUR CHILD TO WORK DAY

On Thursday 29th April P6 and P7 are allowed to go to work with an adult for the
day. This is a valuable experience for them, however it needs to be well organised to
make it worth while. Please think about this for your P6 or P7 child. Forms will be
sent out soon as permission must be given.

OUTDOOR PE
Mr Crook would like to remind all parents that most PE will be held outdoors next
term. Please make sure your child has outdoor trainers and spare socks as the
children will often be working on the grass.

COMENIUS REGIO PROJECT WITH FRANCE

Mrs Sheldon, Miss Gibson and Mrs Harris have been taking part in this British
Council project with 3 other Perthshire schools and four French schools. Mrs Sheldon
will spend 2 days at workshops with the French teachers in Brittany this week. The
aim is to write and animate stories in French and English to use as a resource to
teach French and English in all these schools. We hope also to twin with some of the
French Primary schools and exchange news between the pupils.

END OF TERM
On Thursday 1st of April we will attend an Easter church service at St Madoes
Church with the Rev. Marc Bircham at 11am. All parents are welcome. In the
afternoon the children can take part in the Talent Show, individually or in groups.
This is always a fun afternoon and a wonderful chance for personal achievement.

We look forward to seeing you at some of these events and wish you a Happy Easter
holiday.
