Use the flash cards ask them if they the meaning of main idea, receive
answers from the students then tell them its meaning and explain where we
can found it in a text. Then ask them about the details and explain the

Guiding question: How can we find the main idea and details of a text?
Display a text on the smart board, read the text then show the student how
they can identify the main idea and the text and the supporting details. Use
the smart pen to underline the main idea and two supporting details (tell
them that the details can be more than two, ask them to find more and tell
which sentences are showing them) draw a star beside the main idea and
number the details.

Objectives:
Distinguish between main idea and details when the teacher shows where is
the main ideas and details
Improve students listening skills while listening to the teacher
Independent Experience (small group activity 1)
Instructions (teachers words):
Each group will have sentences cards. one of the sentences will be the main
idea and four of them are the details
Read them carefully.
If you find the main idea, draw a star on the card.
Each group will have different sentences according to their levels
Objectives:
Identify the main idea and supporting detail of an
informational text when they identify the main ideas
Work cooperatively When they will read and discuss which sentence is the
main idea
read fluently when they read the sentences
High level:
They will have more words in the sentences (compound)
Middle level:
They will have some simple sentences and some compound sentences

Instructions (clearly and the material will give to students after explaining
the activity):
The students will have a text and card that includes: name of the group, a
question what is the main idea? And 3 lines for details.
Give each student in the group a text.
Ask the students to read the paragraph carefully and quietly
Next the teacher will ask the students to underline the main idea and
supporting details.
Ask them to fill the card

The students will receive an informational text at their reading level:
High level:
They will have more complex text with one picture
Middle level:
They will have some simple sentences and some compound sentences with
one picture
Low level:
They will have simple sentences in the text and the text include 3 pictures
Give students time to underline the details

Each student will write a summary based on the main idea and the three
supporting details of the informational text they read.
