To the office of student employment,
Im writing this cover letter regarding job posting number 0834109, the office assistant position in the Psych Community Behavioral Health department at UNM. As a psychology student at UNM with previous office assistant work, I believe I would be an excellent fit for the position. My current career objective is to work for UNM as a researcher and teacher in the psychology department so getting experience working for UNM, and learning the departments procedures and rules would give me a better idea of what to expect for future employment. Towards this goal, I am currently taking classes full time at UNM towards a BA in psychology and am on track to graduate in 2018. From June to August of 2015, I interned at Brookdale Senior Living as a general activities assistant and office assistant. There, I gained experience using Microsoft Office, making copies, putting together pamphlets, answering phones, and directing seniors in activities. While the last might not be explicitly relevant to office assistant work, it did teach me how to properly and respectfully handle difficult customers. I have become very skilled in navigating and manipulating Excel and Microsoft word documents as I spent a fair amount of time organizing resident files. I am currently a full time student of the College of Arts and Sciences at UNM. I am a hard and dedicated worker, currently maintaining both the Amigo scholarship and enrollment in the honors college. As I am currently taking psychology classes, I have knowledge of psychiatric terms. I am very invested in my education, and as such will seek to understand any expressions or terminology I come across that are new to me. Thank you for taking the time to read my application, I look forward to hearing your response. References are available upon request.
