Dr. Tammy Bickmore OTD, OTR/L

University of Southern Maine
51 Westminster Street
Lewiston, ME 04240

Dear Dr. Tammy Bickmore,

In recent conversation with other faculty members at University of Southern Maine, I learned about an
employment opportunity of a graduate assistant in the courses OTH 514/515 and OTH 501. I am writing to
express my interest in the graduate assistant position(s) in the occupational therapy program. Given the
description of the job, this position would be an opportunity to exercise my education, capabilities, and
professional knowledge within a graduate assistance position in the occupational therapy program.

After researching graduate assistantship, it is clear that the immediate goal is to assist occupational therapy
students with questions surrounding occupational therapy concepts, aid professors with their activities and
lectures, and establish trusting relationships through thoughtful communication with the other occupational
therapy students. Given my background in caring for children along with my professional experience, I am in an
ideal position to assist professors in presenting the material in their classes, create a learning environment that is
open and honest, and build relationships with first-year occupational therapy students creating a connection
between the two cohorts within the program.

The enclosed résumé outlines my two years of experience as a private nanny to two children in a private
residence. My responsibilities as a private nanny involved creating a nurturing, safe environment to promote
emotional, social, and intellectual growth and guide children in learning letters and numbers by conversing freely.
This role gave me leadership opportunities to instruct the children I was nannying as well as build a trusting
relationship with them. Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Health Science at the
University of Southern Maine and I plan to graduate in Spring 2023. I am also pursuing a Master’s degree in
Occupational Therapy at the University of Southern Maine and plan to graduate December 2024. A graduate
assistantship would allow me to support myself financially while pursuing a Master’s degree full-time and give
me the opportunity to build leadership skills.

I welcome an opportunity to meet and discuss more about pursuing an graduate assistantship. Please feel free to
contact me at (207) 333-8581 or madelyn.springer@maine.edu if you have any questions about my resume and/or
qualifications. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely yours,

Madelyn Springer, OTS
