Outline of Argumentative Essay


Topic: Is online learning as good as face-to-face learning?
1. Introduction (Paragraph 1)
A. Hook: Show well-known saying about teacher: The great teacher is a candlelight by
himself. A teachers influence is forever: no one can tell where his
influence stops
B. Connecting Information: Like these sayings, teachers have a significant effect on
students. Therefore, their role and teaching methods are
important.
C. Thesis statement: Online learning is not good as face-to-face learning.
2. Body
A. Paragraph 2 (first point of argument) topic sentence: Students can do other
things, taking online learning.
1) There is not a supervisor, when students are taking online lecture.
2) Therefore, students can do other things such as searching the internet, playing games,
doing internet shopping and so on.
3) As a result, they cannot fully concentrate on the lecture.
B. Paragraph 3 (second point of argument) topic sentence: Online learning requires
technology or expensive devices.
1) It requires students to have internet using skill and students have to prepare class
materials by themselves.
2) Students need to have expensive devices like laptop or printer.
3) For these reasons, students having poor internet using skill or financial difficulty
cannot take online lecture easily.
C. Paragraph 4 (third point of argument) topic sentence: By online learning,
students can have a convenient interaction with teachers in many ways.
1) There are many ways to connect students with teachers and it is easier to interact

each other than face-to-face learning. For example, patients or physical handicapped
people cannot go to educational institutions easily, so online learning have simpler
system for all of people.
2) However, man is a social animal and they have to make direct connection in every
environment. In environment of education, direct connection and continuous
feedback is important to students.
3) On face-to-face learning, students can have immediate interaction. However, on
online learning, there is no immediate interaction, so they cannot get quick feedback
and have direct interaction from teachers.
3. Conclusion (Paragraph 5)
A. Restated thesis: Online learning has many flaws than face-to-face learning.
Students have to endure these things to take online learning.
B. Opinion: Online learning has some obvious flaws in comparison with face-to-face
learning. When these things are corrected, more and more students can
have a chance of using online learning freely and fairly.
