Practise Blog -Week Beginning 7th March

This week I practised singing mixolydian scales. I am

getting better at not relying on the piano, however I do
often sing the wrong note and go out of pitch. It also
takes me a while because I have to pause and have a
think when it comes to the 7th note so more practise
would make them more fluid and fast.
This week I have been practising the song Villa from
The Merry Widow. It is a very high opera song that I
sing all I my head voice. A simple exercise I kept doing
was the ng one. Using the back of my throat and chest
to sustain the ng sound from the work hung. Doing a
siren whilst holding this stretches my vocal range and
strengthens my head voice. This is a very challenging
song because it is so high. It is also hard to pronounce
my words well when I am singing so high in my head
voice, but by taking deep breaths and exaggerating
and opening my mouth wide helps.
