This week the singer practiced singing mixolydian scales without relying on the piano, though they often sang the wrong note and went out of pitch. They also paused on the 7th note and need more practice to make the scales more fluid and fast. The singer also practiced the song "Villa" from The Merry Widow, a very high opera song sung in their head voice. Exercises like sustaining the "ng" sound helped stretch their vocal range and strengthen their head voice, which is challenged by this high song where pronunciation is difficult.

This week I practised singing mixolydian scales. I am
getting better at not relying on the piano, however I do often sing the wrong note and go out of pitch. It also takes me a while because I have to pause and have a think when it comes to the 7th note so more practise would make them more fluid and fast. This week I have been practising the song Villa from The Merry Widow. It is a very high opera song that I sing all I my head voice. A simple exercise I kept doing was the ng one. Using the back of my throat and chest to sustain the ng sound from the work hung. Doing a siren whilst holding this stretches my vocal range and strengthens my head voice. This is a very challenging song because it is so high. It is also hard to pronounce my words well when I am singing so high in my head voice, but by taking deep breaths and exaggerating and opening my mouth wide helps.
