FACTS
LENGHT: 1,6-1,9 m
WEIGHT: 70-125 kg
LOCATION: Southwest China (Gansu, Shaanxi, and
Sichuan Provinces) to the east of the Tibetan
plateau.
HABITAT
Giant pandas live in broadleaf and coniferous forests
with a dense understory of bamboo, at elevations
between 1,700 and 3,000 m. Torrential rains or dense
mist throughout the year characterizes these forests,
often shrouded in heavy clouds.
LIFE CYLE
A newborn panda cub weighs only 90-130g. and is
about the size of a stick of butter.
The panda cub is 1/900th the size of its mother, one of
the smallest newborn mammals relative to its mother's
size.
Pandas are dependent on their mothers for the first few
months of their lives and are fully weaned at 8 to 9
months.
A panda's average life span in the wild is 14-20 years
(but a panda can live up to 30 years in captivity).
DIET
A wild giant panda’s diet is almost exclusively bamboo.
Sometimes they also eat: small rodents and musk deer
fawns.
Wild giant pandas get much of the water they need from
bamboo, but they have to drink water from rivers too.
