I. Removing Radical Factor from the Radicand – In this section we shall


consider certain methods of simplifying a radical. In general, any radical
should be simplified by the removal of all possible factors from it’s radicand.
In a radical of order n, first factor the radicand, writing separately all of the
factors that are perfect nth powers, find the nth root of each perfect nth
power, and simply the radical by using formula II.
WE SAY THAT A SQUARE ROOT RADICAL is simplified, or in its simplest
form, when the radicand has no square factors. A radical is also in simplest
form when the radicand is not a fraction.
