WHAT IS MYOSTATIN ?

 Myostatin is also called as MSTN

 The MSTN gene provides instructions for making a protein called
myostatin. This protein is part of the transforming growth factor beta
(TGFβ) super family, which is a group of proteins that help control the
growth and development of tissues throughout the body. Myostatin is
found almost exclusively in muscles used for movement (skeletal
muscles), where it is active both before and after birth. This protein
normally restrains muscle growth, ensuring that muscles do not grow
too large. Myostatin has been studied extensively in mice, cows, and
other animals, and it appears to have a similar function in humans.
History of myostatin !!!!!
The gene encoding Myostatin was discovered in 1997
by geneticists Alexandra McPherron and Se-Jin Lee
Some researchers at John Hopkins University
discovered that a genetic defect found in certain bulls
cause them to develop huge musculature. The defect
was the absence of a gene that produces the peptide
Myostatin
Some breeds in dog also lead this idea …….
Myostatin …..
Myostatin (MSTN) has clearly been shown to be an important
negative of muscle growth in mammals .
As we all know that the muscle growth will be there to certain age
limit , after that the Myostatin stop the muscle growth .
The Human myostatin consists of two identical subunits, each
consisting of 109 amino acid residues. Its total molecular weight is
25.0 kDa .
What other names do people use for the MSTN gene or gene
products?
GDF8
GDF-8
GDF8_HUMAN
growth differentiation factor
Where is the MSTN gene located?

Cytogenetic Location: 2q32.2

The MSTN gene is located on the long (q) arm of chromosome2 at

position 32.2
What happens if myostatin does not
bind ??????
The muscle growth does not stops ……….
It grows rapidly , you can't even imagine .
The sub muscle develops , which are not developed in
normal life cycles .
Animals lacking myostatin or animals treated with
substances such as follistatin that block the binding of
myostatin to its receptor have significantly larger
muscles
Some images are shown below ……
In cattle ……….
In dogs ……..
While coming to the humans ……
The humans are the higher order mammals in this
environment.
This is occurred as a deficiency syndrome , this
syndrome / disease is called as ACE-031
(Neuromuscular Disease)
This
He is a patient ….. Not a body builder….
