Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is a popular way to promote
businesses on the internet.
An affiliate is rewarded for each visitor or subscriber
found through their efforts.
Affiliate marketing works well for the merchant since
no fees are paid to the affiliate until they see results.
Working of Affiliate programs
There are at least three parties in an affiliate program
transaction:
the merchant
the network
the publisher
the customer.

The next step is to select the merchants you wish to
work with and analyze their affiliate programs.
Affiliate Network
An affiliate network acts as an intermediary between
publishers (affiliates) and merchant affiliate programs.
Reason:
It allows website publishers to easily find and participate in
affiliate programs which are suitable for their website (and thus
generate income from those programs).
Allows websites offering affiliate programs (typically online
merchants) to reach a larger audience by promoting their
affiliate programs to all of the publishers participating in the
affiliate network
The best and most efficient way to find new offers and get
started, is to join an affiliate network
Benefits of Using an Affiliate Network
All tracking and payments are done by one network.
Networks act as a middle man, and in most cases will
pay their affiliates, if the network itself is not paid by
the advertiser.
Affiliates are generally able to join affiliate networks
for free, whereas there is generally a fee for merchants
to participate.
Affiliate Program Payment
Arrangements
There are three basic types of affiliate program
payment arrangements:
Pay-per-sale (also called cost-per-sale)
Pay-per-click (cost-per-click)
Pay-per-lead (cost-per-lead)
Affiliate Program Technology
The URL for the page contains several pieces of information,
including:
an identification number for the affiliate
an identification number for the merchant
the URL of the merchant site
When you click on the link, the network site records a hit on
that particular URL, which tells them what affiliate sent a visitor
to that merchant. It then immediately sends the visitor to the
actual merchant site.
The network tracks sales using Internet cookies containing
these same identification numbers, so they know what affiliate
referred the customer to the merchant.
