Teenagers and reading

Nowadays( in ziua de azi), as technology surrounds (a inconjura) us, knowledge-wise

(din punct de vedere al cunoasterii) everyone can admit the fact that the Internet is both
our friend and enemy. Teenagers, have forgotten (au uitat) all about the feeling that
reading a book can offer, and the interest that is generated by a storyline (poveste), the
message that it carries (il transmite). Too much playing and too many “comfortable”
ways of learning something new, as videos, or essays already made by someone else,
have changed the concept of reading into a strange idea.
There are so many benefits that reading books have. For instance, one can either
“use” literature or any other types of books to relax, sit down and have a few laughs,
others might discover new interests, in various crafts, or sciences. Reading allows
(permite) one to travel through time, to explore with the help of fiction various places in
history and different time spans (timpuri diferite), or even almost see places while never
leaving the room. It also can come in handy and one can find some pieces of advice, learn
how to deal with some life problems, resolve dilemmas, get involved in solving other’s
problems and be a part of the society they live in. Not to mention that people who can’t
read or write are at a horrible disadvantage.
Teenagers however spend almost three times more time watching TV than reading,
and they consider listening to music more important than picking up a book. They would
gladly (fara probleme, bucurosi) give up reading for a week than go without their
computer, stereo, or favourite television shows. Recent studies show that up to 30
percent find it boring, dull (plictisitor) , or old-fashioned, (invechit, de moda veche) as
opposed (spre deosebire) to the addictive (ce creaza dependenta) TV and Internet that
rapidly becomes more and more popular.
So without being nagged (batuti la cap) into reading, teenagers simply need to find
they own way towards books, find the domain, subject, manner, style, and the right
author that can open up this world and build their interest ( sa ii faca sa le creasca
interesul) . Because most importantly, a teen that reads and appreciates books will be a
reading adult. So they will also be parents that encourage (incuraja ) their children to read
one day.
