CHESS MASTER TOURNAMENT

OFFICIAL RULES/ GUIDELINES:

1. All CS/ICT/IT/ACT students are welcome to join.


2. The Tournament is divided into 3 levels namely: (1)“Three-Aside”, (2)”Time Critical”, and (3)”Chess
Master”.
“Three Aside”

 Opponent chooses three (3) officials from the enemy and puts them out of the game before the
game starts; this excludes the king and queen.
 Basic chess rules, except “pass pawn” are implemented. This means the game ends when the
king is in check and can no longer move.
 The first 4 winners proceed to the next level.

“Time Critical”

 The game only lasts for 5 minutes.


 Each player has to move every 10 seconds.
 Basic chess rules apply, except “pass pawn”. The game ends when a king from either side is
already checked 5 times or the 5 minute limit for the game is reached.
 In case no king is checked within the 5 minutes, the winner is determined by the number of kills
and their corresponding values which are determined by the committee (pawns = 1 pt. officials =
2pts.)
 The winner is determined by the number of checks done on the opponent within the given time
(5 minutes).
 Winners proceed to the next level.

“Chess Master”

 The game lasts till it ends.


 All chess rules apply.
 Winner is declared The ICT Chess Wizard.
3. Two days are allocated for the event with the following schedules and locations:
“Elimination” “Finals”
When: Tuesday, February 1, 2011 <1:00 – 3:00 pm> When: Thursday, February 3,2011 <9:00–11:00 pm>

4. Trophy, cash prize, and certificate of recognition shall be given on February 4, 2011, Friday. The
winner shall represent the Department of Computer Science during the CAS Days Sportsfest.
5. Interested players must secure a registration form from the organizer Edward Villa (09228384443)
or at LB464TC. Deadline of submission of forms is on Jan 28, 2011.
