RESPECT FOR THE HUMAN PERSON

 “Everyone should look upon his neighbor as another self,

bearing in mind above all his life and the means necessary for
living it in a dignified way lest he follow the example of the
rich man who ignored Lazarus, the poor man”[ GS, 27]
PARABLE OF THE RICH MAN &
LAZARUS [ LK.16:19-31
[
 Lazarus is the Greek form for the Hebrew name Eleazar, which
means “ God is my help”
 The PARABLE has 3 scenes:
Scene 3- The fate of the two men after death.
The angels brought Lazarus to Abraham’s
bosom, meaning he had complete fellowship
with Abraham and all those who are blessed,
while the rich man was agonizing.

Scene 2- The two men in death. Naturally Lazarus would

die ahead since he was sickly. But like the beggar, the
rich also died, in spite the money they had to prolong his
life.

Scene 1- A brief picture of the two men as they lived on earth.

The rich man was closed in purple, the garment of royalty, sign &
honor. He feasted luxuriously everyday. Lazarus was lowly beggar,
sick, and helpless that even the dogs licked his sores.
 THE THREE SCENES GIVE US SOM E LESSONS ON WHAT DEATH
CANNOT DO:

1. Death cannot destroy consciousness.

2.Death cannot destroy identity.
3. Death cannot destroy memory.

 WHAT WAS THE RICH MAN’S CONDEMNATION?

 The rich man was not violent. Neither was he outrightly wicked,
nor deliberately cruel to Lazarus. Why was he condemned?

1. The rich man was 2. He was 3. He minimized the

God.
