Apparatus/ Materials:
Empty 20-oz drink bottle A container to hold everything and avoid a big mess
Procedures:
1. First, make the ‘cone’ of the baking soda volcano. Mix 6 cups flour, 2 cup salt, 4
tablespoons cooking oil and 2 cups of water.
The resulting mixture should be smooth and firm (more water may be added if
needed).
2. Stand the soda bottle in the center of container or paper and mold the dough
around it into volcano shape. Don’t cover the hole or drop dough into it.
3. Fill the bottle most of the way full with warm water and a bit of red food colouring
(can be done before sculpting if you don’t take so long that the water gets cold).
4. Add 6 drops of detergent to the bottle contents.
5. Add 2 tablespoons baking soda to the liquid.
6. Slowly pour vinegar into the bottle. (Eruption time).
7. Make the volcano erupt again by adding more baking soda. Pour in more vinegar
to trigger the reaction.
(Another way to make the volcano: mold a clay until the ‘cone’ shape is form)
Lava in a cup
1 teaspoon salt
Water

Theory:
First of all, the oil floats on top of the water because it is lighter than the water.
Since the salt is heavier than oil, it sinks down into the water and takes some oil
with it, but then the salt dissolves and back up goes the oil!
