Alternate Energy Resources

By Babar Waseem
What Is Alternate Energy?
It Is A Clean Alternative To Fossil Fuels
Inexhaustible
Energy That Is Derived From Natural Process That Are
Replenished Constantly
What Is Wind Energy?
The energy of wind is converted to electricity.

Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a

useful form of energy.

Such as using wind turbines to make electricity, wind

mills for mechanical power, wind pumps for pumping
water or drainage.
From Wind to Electrical Energy
The creation of electricity from wind power are as follows:

1.Wind turbines use rotors to convert the wind's energy into

rotational shaft energy.
2.Most wind turbines have three blades, which face into the wind.
3.When wind turns the blades, this spins the shaft, which connects
to a generator, where the electricity is made.
4.Kinetic energy is transformed into electrical energy as wind turns
the rotors of the turbine.
5.Depending on the size of the turbine and speed of the wind, a
turbine can produce 250 watts to 5 megawatts of electrical energy.
Advantages and Limitations
ADVANTAGES
1.Wind energy generates no pollution.
2. Wind is natural resource, which is found everywhere and anytime.
3.Wind energy is renewable.

LIMITATIONS
1.The speed of wind constantly varies, varying the speed of the wind mill blades
which results in variation in power produced by the wind mill.
2. Since wind power varies randomly, it may not be available when needed.
3. The storage of electrical energy is difficult and expensive, so that wind power
must be used in parallel with some other type of generator or with
nonelectrical storage.
