Male Reproductive
System
Generalization:
Females conserve their eggs, concentrating their reproductive
activity into intense and well-advertised estrous "heat" periods,
during which they seek out potential mates almost tirelessly.
Sensory information from the vagina during mating triggers the
production of FSH in the brain and the subsequent release of
eggs, which occurs between 24 and 48 hours after mating has
finished.

The reproductive organs of the male cat are kept on permanent

standby from the onset of puberty at a few months of age.
When a male picks up the scent or hears the distinctive call of a
female in heat, the brain analyzes the sensory information and
sends a hormonal signal to the reproductive organs.
This stimulates him into a state of immediate readiness to mate.
