WRITING TASK 1

The graph shows the percentage change in average house prices in five cities in 1990 – 2002
compared with 1989.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.

The graph shows the percentage change in average house prices in five cities over twelve years
which is from 1990 to 2002 as compared to the prices in 1989. It can be clearly seen that the average
prices from 1990 to 1995 decreased more than between year 1996 to 2002 when compared to 1989.

During the first five years period, there were a significant fell in average prices starting with -5% in
New York (USA) and followed by -7.5% in both Tokyo (Japan) and London (UK). However, there are
two cities noted to increase slightly with 2% in Madrid (Spain) and 2.5% in Frankfurt (Germany)
respectively.

While in the next five years period, the average prices boomed to 12% in London city which is the
highest among the other cities. Overall, other three top cities noted to have stable average prices
despite one city that declined to -5% which is in Tokyo (Japan).

To sum up, the average prices conclude that houses are more sold out in London (UK) and least in
Frankfurt (Germany) from 1990 to 2002 when compared to 1989.
