Title:Feasibility of Coffee grounds and egg shells as a soil substitute

Soil’s essential components for the plant’s growth:

Nitrogen Sulfur

Phosporus Potassium

The elements/minerals/nutrients(whatever) above must be present in the soil

substitute we are planning to produce.Fortunately,those
elements/minerals/nutrients(crap!) are present in coffee grounds and egg shells

Coffee grounds :

*contains many trace minerals and carbohydrates

*it’s acidic enough for blueberries , evergreens , azaleas , roses ,camellias

and other acid foods

*good for non-foliage plants and grasses

*A good pesticide. It terminates plant slugs

1% of coffee grounds=60% slugs

2% of coffee grounds=95% slugs

*with potassium content of 0.6 % and an initial nitrogen content ranging from
1% to 2.28%

Potassium is called as the regulator of plants. It helps plants use

water and resist drought. If plants don’t have enough potassium, they have symptoms
like stunted growth, poor flower development and lower quality fruit or vegetable
harvest. Plant leaves may look scorched and curl at the tips. As the plant grows, the
leaves curl along the edges and often appear dry, white-spotted or crinkled at the
edges

*releases more nitrogen as it degrades

Nitrogen increases plant’s immunity and growth .On the other

hand , too much of it will make plants unable to withstand frosts and strong wind.

*have sulfur that balances PH/acidity.

Cons:
 *its lacking with phosphorus which is essential to flowering plants

Egg shell: (I didn’t find more informations about this .Hope you’ll still find
convenience from these informations. )

*High calcium content

Calcium helps plants build cell walls. Without it, plants cannot
grow as fast, and in the case of some vegetables like tomatoes and squash, fruit will
develop blossom end rot .

*Deter slugs and cut worms

*Calcium in eggshells prevents blossom-end rot in tomatoes

*contains trace minerals like nitrogen and phosphorus

*Crushed eggshell is a good fungicide

*Egg shells are alkaline . Crushed shells reduce acidity or PH level.
