ASSIGNMENT – I

PROBLEM:-
Calculate ESWL of a dual wheel assembly carrying 2044 kg each for pavement
thickness 0f 15, 20 and 25 cms. Centre to centre tyre spacing = 27 cm and distance between the
walls of the tyres=11cm.

SOLUTION:
Given datas:
Each wheel load,P = 2044 kg.
Centre to Centre Tyre Spacing,S=27cm.
Distance between walls of tyres, d=11cm.
Hence;
2P= 4088kg
2S= 54cm
d/2=5.5cm

X and Y points are plotted on a log- log graph between ESWL and pavement thickness.
X has coordinates ( P, d/2 )=(2044,5.5)
Y has coordinates (2P, 2S) = (4088, 54)

On the X- axis , points corresponding to pavement thickness of 15, 20 and 25 cms are
marked and vertical lines are drawn from these points to intersects the line XY. Horizontal lines
are then drawn from these points on line XY to meet the Y- axis , to obtain the corresponding
ESWL values at these pavement thickness. ESWL values thus obtained are-
