What is the Point of Marriage?

The purpose of marriage is oneness
• It’s the best place to share a life together
• It’s the best place to raise kids
• It’s a great picture of Christ and the church (Ephesians 5:25-27, 32-33)

Satan’s desire is for your marriage to be fruitless

• Satan wants to destroy marriage (personally & institutionally)
• If you hurt the family, you hurt the church, you hurt our influence
• Satan wants to distort marriage
o The purpose of marriage is NOT to be happy

How Do We Have that Kind of Marriage?

1. Recognize that your home is a battleground
o Will you go home and die? (Ephesians 6:12-13)
o If we can’t win in the home, what in the world do we have to offer?
o When you get into the habit of winning in your home, it will become a much more
restful place (1 Corinthians 6:4-8)
2. Each spouse must get in tune with Jesus
o If a piano and guitar are tuned to the same tuner, the piano and guitar will be tuned
to each other
o “MY will be done” destroys the home (James 4:1-2)
o “Jesus, your will be done,” is God-honoring

Practical Application
Make spending time with the LORD a very high priority
