Importance of Time

The concept of time can be viewed as the duration, given time, age or state of the atmosphere. Time is the most important resource. It is a gift of nature to humanity. Time is capital and not renewable income. Time is destiny. It is more powerful than the most powerful monarchs, princes, and rulers. These come and go but time is forever, eternal, without an end, without any beginning. Time is said to be everlasting. The flow of time is free force and we all are like small, insignificant and helpless particles in this endless and continuous flow. It cannot be commanded. Time may be spent wisely or foolishly. The choice is ours and so are its consequences. It is the basic building block that goes in making our success, career, happiness, and status in society. Men have invented the years, months, days, hours, minutes and seconds to measure it, but it is immeasurable. They have also given meanings to the words past, present and future. Time is invisible but we can fell its existence as what was yesterday is not today. What is today will not be tomorrow. Yesterday is gone. Today is and tomorrow is yet to come. People say time is money. But it is more precious than money. Money lost can be recovered, but not the time lost. A moment lost is lost forever. Those who do not know the importance of time, waste it or rather they spend it doing nothing. There is a proverb which says that killing time is not a murder; it is a suicide. It means, by wasting time one is not harming others. On the other hand one is harming himself. Ordinary people merely go on thinking how to spend their time. The wise and talented make use of it fruitfully. Our life is a bubble, a short morning dream, brittle as glass and, therefore, we should take good care of it and make the best use. We all want fame, success, happiness, and prosperity but only a few are able to achieve this because only they make the best use of their time. A stitch in time save nine is a popular maxim. It highlights the importance of time in life. It means that an act done in time saves from inconvenience and trouble. It brings reward. It is gainful and it saves from hassle and confusion. Unnecessary delay and lazy attitude towards ones assigned duty is very dangerous. The great men of the world rose to fame, glory and success because they always made best use of their time. They made a mark in time. They became immortal. They are guide and source of inspiration for generation to come. Both the Qur'an and the Sunnah enjoin Muslims to be conscious of time. We are reminded that life in this world is nothing but temporary. We never know when death has been appointed for us. We must value time for the satisfaction of Allah the Almighty. For our guidance and success, we must never waste time nor abuse it.
