OBJECTIVES OF THE WORKSHOP:

1) TO BUILD BROADER UNDERSTANDING TO THE CONCEPT


OF LEADERSHIP.
2) DISCUSS THE ROLE OF LEADERSHIP AND THE
CONTRIBUTIONS IT CAN BRING TO AN ORGANISATION.
3) DISCUSS COUNTRY SITUATIONS OF WWD STATUS IN THE
REGION.
4) SHARE EXPERIENCE AND GOOD PRACTICE BETWEEN
COUNTRIES.
5) DEEPEN UNDERSTANDING OF RIGHTS BASED ON
APPROACHES TO WORK WITH WWDS.
6) EXPLORE ISSUES OF GENDER AND DISABILITY.
7) EXAMINE RELEVANT LEGISLATIONS AFFECTING WWDS.
8) UNDERSTAND SOME OF THE STRATEGIC AND TACTICAL
CHOICES THAT CAN BE MADE IN THE ADVOCACY WORK.
9) DEVELOP COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
10) UNDERSTAND THE USE AND ROLE OF THE MEDIA.
11) RECOGNISE THE ELEMENTS AND IMPORTANCE OF
PLANNING FOR ADVOCACY AND COMMUNICATION

FACILITATION IN ORDER TO DESIGN NATIONAL LEVEL
WORKSHOPS.

NETWORKING AND TO INITIATE NATIONAL AND
REGIONAL WORKSHOPS.

BACK GR OUND :

ORGANIZING REGIONAL TRAINING ON LEADERSHIP


FOR WOMEN WITH DISABILITIES FROM SOUTH ASIA
DURING 24-31ST MARCH IS ENVISAGED AS A KEY
MILESTONE IN THE WWD PROJECT. WHILE PLANNING
FOR THE TRAINING, IT WAS DISCUSSED THAT THE
LEARNING CHURNED FROM THE REGIONAL TRAINING
WILL BE CAPTURED THROUGH THOROUGH
DOCUMENTATION, SO THAT A LEARNING RESOURCE IS
DEVELOPED IN THE FORM OF TRAINING MA NU AL . IT
WAS EXPECTED THAT THE VERY PROCESS WOULD BE
A RICH EXPERIENCE, TO UNDERSTAND HOW THE
CHALLENGES OF MAKING IT INCLUSIVE FOR WOMEN
WITH DIFFERENT NEEDS AND WITH DIFFERENT
LANGUAGE SKILLS, COULD BE ADDRESSED TO ENSURE
PARTICIPATORY LEARNING. THE KEY USERS WOULD
BE ORGANIZATIONS WORKING FOR THE
EMPOWERMENT OF DIFFERENT VULNERABLE GROUPS,
ESPECIALLY THE WOMEN WITH DISABILITIES.

DURING THIS PLANNING, IT WAS DISCUSSED THAT


THOUGH THE MODULE OF LEADERSHIP WOULD
REMAIN THE KEY FOCUS IN THE TRAINING, THUS
KEEPING IT WITHIN THE LARGER FRAMEWORK OF THE
MANUAL YET THE EXPERIENCE OF ENGAGING
WOMEN WITH DISABILITIES WOULD REFLECT AND
GUIDE THE USERS WITH THE INPUTS OF HOW TO
MAKE A LEARNING PROCESS MORE INCLUSIVE FOR
THOSE WITH DISABILITIES.

SO A DETAILED TRAINING REPORT WOULD BE


PREPARED AND THEN BASED ON THE PROCESSES OF
THE SESSIONS, A COMPREHENSIVE TRAINING MANUAL
WOULD BE PUBLISHED.

ALONG WITH THE PUBLICATION OF THE TRAINING


MANUAL, A MAJOR CHALLENGE HAS BEEN HOW TO
TRANSFER THE KNOWLEDGE AND THE SKILLS TO THE
WOMEN WITH DISABILITIES WHO AFTER UNDERGOING
THE REGIONAL TRAINING WOULD DO THE MANTLE OF
FACILITATORS FOR OTHER SUCH GROUPS IN THEIR
RESPECTIVE COUNTRIES. THE NEED IDENTIFIED WAS
OF A TOOL THAT WOULD ACT AS A COMPLEMENTARY
DEVICE GUIDING THROUGH THE PROCESS WITH A
VISUAL, INTERACTIVE AND INTERESTING
PRESENTATION. THUS THE IDEA OF AN IN TERA CTIVE
AUDIO V ISU AL T RAI NIN G COMP ANI ON CD WAS
CONCEIVED.
APART FROM THIS IT WAS ALSO PLANNED THAT A
SH ORT DOC UM EN TARY FILM PR OMO TI NG S UC H
TR AINI NG P ROG RA MME WOULD BE MADE TO
PREPARE AN ADVOCACY TOOL DEMONSTRATING THE
IMPORTANCE OF SUCH A PROCESS SPEAKING FOR THE
INCLUSION AND EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN WITH
DISABILITIES.

THE CONTENT TO DEVELOP IN 13 COMPLETE


SECTIONS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SESSION PLAN
USED THROUGHOUT THE TRAINING. EACH OF THE
MODULES WILL BE INTERACTIVE PROVIDING OPTION
FOR PAUSE AFTER EACH MODULE. THIS IS TO ENSURE
ADEQUATE TIME FOR THE FACILITATORS TO READ,
COMPREHEND, RELATE AND INTERNALIZE THE
INPUTS. MOREOVER IF THE FACILITATORS WOULD
PLAN TO USE THIS MANUAL DURING ANY TRAINING
WHICH IS TARGETED AT DEVELOPING FURTHER
RESOURCE TEAM OF FACILITATORS, THEY CAN USE
THE CD TO DEMONSTRATE THE PROCESS FOR THE
PARTICIPANTS AS WELL.

THE FACILITATORS, TO BE MORE SPECIFIC WHAT THE
FACILITATORS WOULD LIKE TO ACHIEVE THROUGH

PARTICIPANT. INFACT IN A TRAINING PROCESS, THE

THE POST TRAINING ASSESSMENT IS TO UNDERSTAND


THE LEVEL OF LEARNING BY THE PARTICIPANTS
AFTER THE WORKSHOP AND THUS TO ASSESS HOW
MUCH OF THE TRAINING AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES
HAS BEEN ACHIEVED. THIS SECTION WILL ALSO
ADDRESS HOW TO CONCLUDE A WORKSHOP AND WILL
REINFORCE THE KEY POINTS FOR ORGANIZING THE
TRAINING WITH ANY VULNERABLE GROUP.

EACH OF THE MO DU LES CAN BE PRESENTED IN THE


FOLLOWING ORDER
1. NAME OF THE PARTICULAR SESSION WITH SOME
GRAPHICS/POP UPS/FOOTAGE TO SIMULATE THE
THEME OF THE SESSION
2. PRESENTATION OF THE SESSION
OBJECTIVE(THROUGH SLIDE PRESENTATION,
SCROLLING PRESENTATION, FLASH
PRESENTATION, ETC)
3. NARRATIVE OF THE TRAINING METHODOLOGY TO
FOLLOW, I.E HOW THE FACILITATOR LEADS TO
THE LEARNING OF PARTICULAR SESSION. HERE
THE AUDIO VISUAL FOOTAGE OF THE TRAINING
WOULD BE USED TO DEMONSTRATE THE MAJOR
PROCESSES LIKE EXERCISES, GAMES, GROUP
WORK, PRESENTATION BY THE GROUPS, SOME
IMPORTANT COMMENTS, SUMMARIZING BY
FACILITATORS, ETC)
4. KEY LEARNING POINTS SUMMARIZED. THESE
CAN BE DRAWN FROM THE RESOURCE HANDOUTS
OR THE PRESENTATIONS SHARED DURING THE
TRAINING FOR RESPECTIVE SESSIONS.

• THROUGHOUT THIS PRESENTATION, VOICE-OVER


WILL BE USED TO HELP THE PEOPLE WITH VISUAL
IMPAIRMENT, INTERNALIZE THE PROCESS AND
SIGN LANGUAGE WITH SUBTITLES (NEED BASED)
WOULD BE USED TO MAKE THE PRESENTATION.
• COMPREHENSIBLE FOR THE PEOPLE WITH
HEARING AND SPEECH IMPAIRMENT.
• THE PRESENTATION WOULD BE UNIFORM FOR
EVERY MODULE.
HOWEVER IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE STRESSED THAT
THE EXERCISES USED ARE JUST EXAMPLES OF HOW
A PARTICULAR SESSION CAN BE FACILITATED AND
ARE NOT MEANT TO RESTRICT THE FREEDOM OF A
FACILITATOR TO APPLY OTHER INNOVATIVE
METHODS.

THE DRAFT SCRIPT OF THE OVERALL VOICE OVER AND


THE PRESENTATION WOULD BE SHARED WITH THE
PROGRAMME TEAM, WHO WILL THEN PROVIDE THEIR
INPUTS BEFORE RECORDING THE FINAL VOICE OVER.
ONCE THE PRESENTATION IS COMPLETED, THE VIDEO
FOR SIGN INTERPRETATION WILL BE SHOT AND
INCORPORATED TO FINALISE THE JOB.

II. SH ORT DOC UM EN TARY FILM

THE DURATION OF THIS FILM WOULD BE 10-15


MINUTES. THIS WILL FOCUS ON HOW THE LEADERSHIP
TRAINING WAS CONCEIVED BASED ON THE NEEDS
IDENTIFIED THROUGH WORKING WITH WOMEN WITH
DISABILITIES, THE KEY OBJECTIVES, THE
EXPERIENCE OF ORGANIZING THE TRAINING, THE
PROCESS FOLLOWED AND ESPECIALLY HOW THE
PROCESS BRINGS IN THE CHANGE AMONG THE
PARTICIPANTS AND THE EMPOWERMENT AS
PERCEIVED BY THE WOMEN THEMSELVES.
INTERVIEWS OF THE PARTICIPANTS WOULD BE USED
TO ADD VOICES OF THE WOMEN WITH DISABILITIES TO
REFLECT THE TRANSFORMATION THROUGH THE
TRAINING.

TIMELI NE:

A COMPLETE SESSION WILL BE FIRST CAPTURED IN


THE PLANNED TEMPLATE WITH GRAPHICS AND SLIDES
WILL BE SHARED WITH THE PROGRAMME TEAM ALONG
WITH THE SCRIPT OF THE VOICE OVER. AFTER
GETTING THE FEEDBACK FROM THE PROGRAMME
TEAM, THE PRODUCTION TEAM WILL THEN PROCEED
WITH REST OF THE SESSIONS AND WILL CONSULT THE
PROGRAMME TEAM IN THE PROCESS OF FINALIZING
THEM RESPECTIVELY. THE FIRST CUT/DRAFT
INCLUDING SIGN INTERPRETATION OF THE TRAI NIN G
CO MPANI ON C D WILL BE SUBMITTED BY 31ST MAY.
THIS WILL BE TESTED DURING THE NATIONAL
TRAININGS HOSTED BY EACH OF THE CORE PARTNERS
FROM INDIA, SRILANKA AND BANGLADESH DURING
THE PERIOD JUNE-AUGUST. THE FEEDBACK/INPUTS
GENERATED FROM THE FIELD TESTING WOULD BE
SHARED BY THE IMPLEMENTING PARTNERS WITH THE
PRODUCTION TEAM FROM DRIK. AFTER
INCORPORATING THE FEEDBACK THE FINAL
PRODUCTION IN PACKAGED JEWEL CD BOXES WILL BE
SUBMITTED BY SEPTEMBER 2008.
