2.Who is the father of Organic Chemistry? How many organic
compounds are known at present?

Robert Burns Woodward (April 10, 1917 July 8, 1979) was
an American organic chemist, considered by many to be the preeminent
organic chemist of the twentieth century. He made many key contributions
to modern organic chemistry, especially in the synthesis and structure
determination of complex natural products, and worked closely with Roald
Hoffmann on theoretical studies of chemical reactions. He was awarded
the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1965.

Over 243 carbon-containing (organic) compounds are
known so far. In addition, 90% of the new compounds discovered
or synthesized each year are also organic. The list is growing.

3 WhaL are Lhe four maln sources of organlc compounds?
The four main sources are:
1.Petroleum
2.bituminous (soft) coal
3.natural gas
4. plants & animals.
