News from our Community-Parish Christmas Carols Concert

The annual Christmas Concert held in our Community Centre Hall last Sunday amazed the hundreds of faithful who attended. Following the performances with keen interest were His Excellency the Governor of South Australia Mr Hieu Van Le and the Honourable Consul-General of Greece in Adelaide Mr Christos Maniakis Grivas with their esteemed wives; the Chairman of the Ethnic Schools Board Mr John Kiosoglou with his esteemed wife; representatives of the Councils of Torrensville, Norwood, Payneham and St Peters Messrs George Demetriou and Isaac Pasalidis; the Very Revd Fr Spyridon with Presvytera; the representative of the Greek Welfare Centre Mr Michael Ikonomou and

his family; teachers and other official guests. All the speeches given referred to the motto of the evening: Let us include Christ in

Christmas. In an age where everything is commercialized, the removal

of the Son of God from Christmas is obviously for commercial reasons. Therefore, the writer and producer of the play, Mr Kon Psaromatis, thought it would be timely to stage it now, to give the audience a chance to make the important parallel: What relation have the many wasteful meals with the birth of Christ? The revelries? The vacations? Even the good wishes and the beautiful Christmas cards, seeing they dont express the humility and and condescension of the Divine Word? You who saw the play, how many things have you changed for the better this year? The speech-givers were the Governor, the ConsulGeneral, the Chairman of the Ethnic Schools Board, the President of our Community-Parish Mr Evangelos Georgiou and Fr Stavros, who thanked everyone for contributing to the great success of the function. Congratulations to the organizers, to the students of the Sunday School and Greek school, to the Chanters of the Byzantine Choir under the direction of the head-chanter Mr John Saridakis, the ladies choir of our Community-Parish, especially to Ms Tsambika Diakogeorgiou for her singing and accompanying, and Miss Victoria Kakoulis for her exceptional rendition of Christmas songs. At the end, Fr Stavros gave gifts to the Honourable Consul-General Mr Christos Maniakis Grivas celebrating his name-day, to the Governor, to Mr Kiosoglou, to the

head Chanter, to the organizer Mr Kon Psaromatis, to the exceptional singers, to the Sunday School students and to the teachers. We thank Mr George Psorakis for the screen and the video equipment; Mr Andrew Psaromatis for the acoustics and Mr Michael Psaromatis for the computer and video screening. Special thanks to the indefatigable ladies of the Philoptohos and other volunteers for the loukoumades and service. Finally we thank the President and the members of the Executive Committee for the preparation of the hall before and after the event. May the New-born Christ grant us spiritual and bodily health so we can continue these beautiful Christian traditions. May we indeed celebrate Christmas with Christ this year!

Christmas Carolling around the houses

On behalf of the children, we extend sincere thanks to you our devoted parishioners who received them with love when they came to sing the Kalanda. The children thank you for the drinks, good wishes and your smiles of welcome; and also for your generosity towards the finances of the Philoptohos. Although the money was not for the children, joy was evident on their faces when all the donations were counted. On your behalf, we thank the children who abandoned their games and relaxation and eagerly spread the Christmas message with joy. We especially thank the drivers who, despite their many preoccupations, gave their time and petrol. Our Newsletter Committee thanks all of you, who as members of one family, help and share the load. The full amount collected is $2268 dollars. We thank you.

Vespers, Farewell Function

Tomorrow Monday Eve of the Archdeacon and First Martyr Stephen, there will be Vespers in the English Language at 6 pm. Also, artoklasia will be blessed for the health of the Youth of the Third Region of our Holy Archdiocese. St Stephen is the patron saint of the Central Youth of our Archdiocese. After Vespers, there will be a BBQ, courtesy of the Community-Parish of Prophet Elias. All committee-members and subcommittees, of our Community-Parish are welcome at the Vespers and the BBQ afterwards.

Ringing in the New Year 2012

Next Saturday New Years Eve, the New Years Eve Dance will take place in our Community Centre Hall. It is a most beautiful function where we are entertained in a family atmosphere. We shall also have the blessing of welcoming the New Year in the Church: an established tradition we have no intention of discontinuing! You may obtain tickets from members of the Executive Committee, the Philoptohos and the Priest. Entrance, gold lira door-prize, abundant food, sweets and icecream, dancing and entertainment by D.J. VAS, vasilopittes and family atmosphere, only $30 for adults and $15 for children 10 15 years. Under 10 years, free-of-charge. Drinks extra.
