Rene Descartes discovered the law of reflection. He was born 31 March 1596 and died 11 February 1650. so therefore, the law was discovered in his later life.

Photons that hit a rough surface will bounce off of the surface in a haphazard manner, while those that hit a smooth surface, such as a mirror, only bounce off of the surface at the same angle at which they hit the object. The scientific term for this phenomenon is Reflection.

The speed of light depends on the medium through which the light travels. In empty space, the speed is 186,000 (1.86 105) miles per second. It is almost the same in air. In water, it slows down toapproximately 140,000 (1.4 105) miles per second.

Humans have always been curious about light. The ancient Greeks thought that light traveled out from our eyes to let us see objects. In about A.D. 1000, an Arab thinker named Alhazen became the first to recognize that we see objects because light Reflects off them. The law of reflection says that you see your reflection because are at an equal distance from center of the interference as the light that reflects your image.
