DRAMA

In my final year at school, I was School Games Captain, a School Officer a Deputy Head Girl position - and captain of the Senior Netball team. I also played lacrosse, tennis, athletics and rounders for the first teams. I won the Senior Tennis cup, have played for the Hertfordshire Netball squad and been invited to try out at county level for both Netball and Lacrosse. These roles, responsibilities and opportunities have extended my leadership, time-management, and teamwork qualities as well as my ability to present in public. My love of travel has given me the opportunity to experience new sports, as well as adventures: I have wind-surfed in Margarita, collected turtle eggs in Mexico, visited a yellow alert volcano in Colimo, snorkelled and kite-surfed in Egypt, cycled the Road of Death and visited a high security prison in Bolivia! These experiences have been invaluable in developing my ability to work independently, meet a wide range of people and use my initiative. I am able to face new challenges with confidence. I enjoy going to see plays. Playing central roles in school productions and as part of my Theatre Studies course has enabled me to develop in confidence and gain further experience in leadership and negotiation skills. Planning, thinking ahead, working independently and in a team are all vital skills in this area.

WORK EXPERIENCE

July 2011 University of Brighton

Night Mentor: During these three nights, I worked as a member of a team to ensure the teenagers who were part of this widening participation summer school were safe at night as well as spending time talking to them about University life and about their prospects. I was also responsible for organising some evening entertainment for them. Receptionist, Facilities Assistant, Telephone Operator: In these roles, I continued with the Facilities duties as described below, however I was also given more responsibility in terms of space planning, organising a large internal personnel move and designing and updating new database records, consolidating results from a staff survey I was asked to conduct. Along with extended duties, including space-planning, data entry and some work with the Mitel telephony system. My confidence in dealing with people and problem-solving has really developed. Over the years I have been given many more responsibilities. In this role I started in the Community Mental Health Unit in Stevenage, where I helped with the filing and organisation of a move to a new building. On completion of this job, I was recommended to the Mental Health Unit at the Lister Hospital where I continues with general office tasks including finding, sorting and cataloguing patient records. Facilities assistant: full time maternity cover. This role involved dealing with internal staff and visitors at every level. Communication skills, patience and the ability to organise events and meet requests, often at short notice, were of the utmost importance. Bar and restaurant work at the Hogs Head in St. Albans P.A.
