REPORT ON M.A.P.S.

, KALPAKKAM,CHENNAI
TIME : 11:00 A.M. TO 4:00P.M. VENUE : M.A.P.S., Chennai DATE : March 2, 2012 An Industrial visit to Madras Atomic Power Station located at Kalpakkam,Chennai was organized by our college C.S.I.T. for the students of Electronics & Telecommunication branch. The visit was organized under the guidance of R/S Mr. Mangal Singh SirH.O.D. , Elex. & Telecomm. Deptt. We went to Maps with R/S Mr. Tomesh Verma Sir , R/S Mrs. Vijeta Verma Mam & R/S Mr. Maheedhar Dubey. About 26 students visited there. MAPS was founded by our honourable Prime Minister Shri Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru in 1983.It makes all Indians feel proud that MAPS was bulid by the efforts of Indians only and no foreign efforts were taken at its construction. At first, we went to Nuclear Energy centre where one of the eminent professor of MAPS explained about the nuclear energy, nuclear power in India & various nuclear power plants in operation today with the help of powerpoint presentation. They explained that the reactors at MAPSs are pressurized heavy water reactors & Natural Uranium(U-235-0.7% ,U-238-99.3%) fuel is used in them. They also explained the differences between fissile & fractile materials, their conversion, types of reactors , 3 stage nuclear power programme , recycling of wastes produced & the zones in nuclear power plant in a very effective manner. Then we took a visit of various stations of MAPS with R/S N.Manickavasagam Sir. There, we visited the sea water pump house where we saw the condensation process taking place in the nuclear reactor & also we saw the turbine generators as well as the control room . They explained about the process of generation of electricity through turbines & the process of regulation & maintenance of each & every unit of MAPS. And at last, we are really thankful to our respected Chairman Sir & MAPS for giving such a wonderful opportunity to telecomm. students to visit such a great place.We have really gained lots of practical knowledge from the
