Factory Shoals Elementary School serves approximately 536 students, PreK to 5th grade. It serves 79 faculty members. The library has one full time media clerk and one full time media specialist. The media center is located in the center of building. This is a good central location. We gave a media center survey to the faculty members to base our new floor plan and needs of the school library. Based on the survey we have created a new floor plan.

Justifications: Our main goal was to make the library more kid friendly and inviting. We moved all computers to a central location. We also added a story time area so that the children knew exactly where to come in and sit during story time. Since we created a designated story area we needed to move all reference books to a different location. We also thought that where the computers where the computers were originally blocked access to the reference books s that was another reason why we chose to move them. We felt that all the books were all over the place and not organized. We chose to put all fiction books together and all nonfiction books together. We also chose to add the Accelerated reader books where they fit in and not in a separate location. The books are labeled if they are AR. Students and teachers were having a problem locating the Accelerated Reader books, because there was no order to the shelves where the AR books were located. We also wanted to change the way the furniture was set up to create a more open feel to the library. We decided to get more kid friendly furniture as well. We added some nice rugs as well to make it feel more welcome! All of the changes made will benefit not only our library but also our school and make it a higher functioning place to learn!
