    At input end..
    Step down transformer is used. Optocoupler to isolate dc. Voltage regulator provide 5v DC.

    At output end..
    Opto-triac coupler converts to 230 ac mains.

    Then this is fed to triac and ultimately to the fan. This is where the regulator is replaced.
