Officers Assaulted During Traffic Stop

An Orangeville Police officer received a broken hand and two other officers were assaulted when a routine traffic stop became violent late Tuesday night. On Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at approximately 11:30 p.m., an Orangeville Police officer stopped a vehicle after witnessing a passenger in the vehicle with half of his body hanging out of a window of the vehicle. The officer stopped the vehicle to issue the passenger a ticket for not wearing his seatbelt. Upon interacting with the male passenger, he was placed under arrest for failing to identify himself to police. The male resisted attempts by police to take him into custody and became assaultive towards officers. Once placed inside the police cruiser, the accused male proceeded to kick at the window of the car door shattering the glass and damaging the door. Officers attempted to transfer the male to another cruiser at which time the male kicked one officer in the chest and another officer was kicked in the hand causing a fracture. Police were eventually able to gain control of the male. Jake Steven TAYLOR, 21, of Orangeville was charged several criminal offences including Resisting Arrest, Uttering Threats, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, two counts of Assault and three counts of Mischief Under $5000. The accused male was held in custody for a bail hearing and was later released by the Court. The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Orangeville on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 to answer to the allegations.
