Engineering a better tomorrow

TCE Consulting Engineers Limited ( TCE ), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons Limited, is a leading engineering consultant with over 3000 prestigious projects to its credit covering diverse realms of industry. With four decades of rich experience, TCE provides competent and comprehensive engineering consultancy solutions with global perspective. TCE's ISO 9001 certified multi-disciplinary services have earned enormous goodwill from clients in India and overseas. TCEs vast experience in engineering power projects is well reflected in its association with over 30,000 MW of generating capacity in India and abroad. This embraces all the conventional modes of power generation including : Coal & Oil / Gas fired Thermal Plants DG Plants Hydel Stations Gas Turbine based Open and Combined Cycle Plants Pumped Storage Schemes Nuclear Plants. Co-generation Plants

TCE has engineered several thermal power plants with unit capacities ranging from 5 MW to 500 MW. TCEs share in the installed capacity of thermal power in India is over 30% - the highest among Indian consultants. Decades of experience in the design and development of thermal power plants has enabled TCE to pioneer many features, improve efficiency, availability and reliability of units.

Major thermal power plants engineered by TCE

One of TCEs pioneering achievements is the engineering services provided for the 500 MW multi-fuel fired Unit No.5 at Trombay Thermal Power Station of The Tata Power Company Limited (TPCL). This was the first 500 MW thermal unit to be set up in India and has served as a

benchmark for the subsequent 500 MW units. Due to uncertainty of fuel availability, this unit was designed as a 100% coal, 100% oil and 100% gas fired unit, which is a unique feature for units of this size. This unit is also equipped with a 50% capacity flue gas desulphurisation facility with sea water scrubbing. TCE was associated with this project from concept to commissioning. TCE also provided engineering services for the second 500 MW multi-fuel fired Unit no.6 for TPCL. It is distinguished by a number of special features such as low heat rate, DDCS, SCADA, CPU, VFD and

on-line condition monitoring system. For the 2 x 130 MW corex gas / coal based thermal power plant set up by Jindal Thermal Power Company Ltd., at Toranagallu in Karnataka which was executed on an EPC basis, TCE initially prepared a feasibility report, supported the client in securing various permits and approvals and subsequently prepared the EPC tender specifications for global bidding. Bid review and technical evaluation was also performed by TCE. After award of the EPC contract, TCE supported the client as Owners Engineer by administering the EPC contract and monitoring and supervising the project

to ensure cost, schedule and quality control.

For the 2 x 500 MW Thermal Power Project at Simhadri of National Thermal Power Corporation Limited, TCE carried out civil, architectural and structural design engineering of the main plant for Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, who was the EPC Contractor. In addition to the above, TCE also carried out detailed engineering of the plant drainage, sewerage, underground facilities and auxiliary plant buildings. Technical due diligence for the 2 x 210 MW Units 1 & 2 of Ib Valley Thermal Power Station of Orissa Power Generation Corporation Limited (OPGCL), was carried out by TCE for Public Service Enterprises Group (PSEG), USA, to enable them to review the purchase of these units from OPGCL. After this power station went into commercial operation, TCE was retained by DSP Merill Lynch and OPGCL to perform a more comprehensive due diligence, which also included an assessment of the operation and maintenance of the plant. TCE has been associated with several overseas thermal power plants. For the 2 x 120 MW Pasirgudang thermal power plant of National Electricity Board of Malaysia, TCE provided design engineering, procurement assistance, construction management and commissioning services.
