early Sunday morning, about 4:15am, merritt Fire rescue attended another fire in the cardboard bin at the main St. recycling depot. they arrived quickly & were able to put out the blaze in short order. this is the 3rd such fire.

Smoke from large fires in Colorado hung over the southern part of the province this weekend. due to a temperature inversion, the smoke may remain trapped here for the week. In such situations, it is harder to detect wildfires through radar, and officials will rely more heavily on notification of fires from the public. and with the hot dry weather & the fires in the uS, begins the fire season. thhe majority of the province was upgraded to a moderate or high danger warning over the past week. a couple who participated in the dog Show June 30-July 2 lost their dog in merritt on July 1st. theyre asking merritt residents to watch for 'Kody, a male brindle boxer, 14 mos old, very friendly but probably scared. he escaped during the fireworks near the ramada. his owners have now returned home to Kelowna after staying on to look for Kody.
