The second activity they worked was to do some research on the natural vegetation that our region Aljezur, Algarve, Portugal has. Lesson 4- The students into 9 groups had 2 or 3 plants, shrubs or trees to research. After that they decided what technology they were going to use. After explaining to them the different kinds of software availbale, they decided on Google Images, Google Translator, Photoscape, Powerpoint and Wikipedia. Lesson 5- During this lesson the students create folders on their desktop, search for images related to their topics and save these same images to their folders. Lesson 6- During this lesson the students draw the trees, shrubs and plants on an A4 paper and place their common names in English and Portuguese. The studetns then digitalized their work to the computer using the scanner. Lesson 7- They edited the images searched on Google images and the drawings using a freeware application called Photoscape.
Lesson 8- During this lesson the students informed how to search for information on wikipedia. They all looked for the definitions of their trees, shrubs and plants and saved the information to a notepad file. Lesson 9- During this lesson the students created a presentation using the program Microsoft Powerpoint. They create titles with WORDART and then insert and resize their images. BIRDS in ICELAND
The Icelandic climate is not exactly a hospitable one when it comes to agriculture. The first green-house was built in Hverageri in 1930, and due to all the geothermal water in this area Hverageri is one of the main green-house towns in Iceland. Having the greenhouse speaks much for the Icelandic people's ability to tame their environment. In a country well known for it's phenomenal volcanic eruptions, it is a wonder that their country can trade at all with the international community. But the same forces of nature that destroys, also creates lifelines: the volcanic eruptions and hot springs give resource to geothermal energy used to power food production and sustainable heat for household use and generation of electricity. The same electricity used to heat up the greenhouses in the south.
We have a large school yard. Some of the lessons are teaching there.
For two weeks or so we look at the spider and we saw that there was ice over the nest. We took photos to show you. We also found the nest who had been abandoned and probably has blown down from trees.
A Trip to Bothanical Garden - POLAND On 22 May some of my students were on a trip to Bothanical Garden in Wosawice not far from Dzieroniw. In May a lot of rodhodendrons bloom and the garden is colourful and smells wonderful.

First sign of spring? ICELAND Maybe we found the first sign that spring is coming. It's strange that we found this tree in the dark forest. We are going to send you photos of what we feel and reminds us of spring. This has been a tough winter in Iceland, great snow. We will be glad when it begins to warm up and the spring comes.
We learn about: Experiment with organic and inorganic materials in Iceland; Quizes and crosswords about Wild animals in Poland.ppt; The smallest animals in Poland - the result of research on the smallest animals in Polandinsects, spider,...; The most popular fruit in Poland:
