Moves to bring Fiji back into the Pacific fold are building at a regional leaders' summit, despite Australian and New Zealand opposition to lifting Fiji's suspension sparked by the military regime of Frank Bainimarama. Papua New Guinea has agreed to host talks between Pacific nations later this year outside the auspices of the Pacific Island Forum. A Pacific official told the reporter that the move would require some ''gyrating'' by the forum secretariat, but said the deal was agreed on the sidelines of the forum during a meeting of small island states. In a complicated diplomatic maneuver, this could see Commodore Bainimarama attend the October meeting in PNG, ahead of larger summit known as the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group, which has traditionally had close ties to the forum. But a wider push to allow Fiji's leader to attend ACP meetings that run consecutively with the Pacific Island Forum was knocked back. Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who is in the Cook Islands for the 15-nation summit, has made it clear Australia would not accept Fiji back into the forum until elections are held. However, Ms Gillard said arrangements could change when progress was made in Fiji, including the recent decision to return an Australian High Commissioner to Suva. ''But the key to coming back into the Pacific Islands Forum and to being acknowledged around the world as
back from where Fiji has been is a return to democracy. It's having an election,'' she said before the forum. Ms Gillard decided to return to Australia following the deaths of five Australian soldiers in Afghanistan. Parliamentary secretary Richard Marles will take over Australia's representation at the forum. The leaders were expected to canvass the Fiji question at a retreat on the island of Aitutaki, a 45-minute flight from the main island. Fiji was suspended from the forum in 2009 after abrogating the constitution. Commodore Bainimarama took power in a coup three years earlier. Opinion

polls suggest his rule is popular. Tongan Prime Minister Lord Tu'ivakano said the African, Caribbean and Pacific group offered a chance to embrace Fiji. ''We see this ACP as probably a way for Fiji to come in and be more open,'' he said. Nauru President Sprent Dabwido said ''all brothers and sisters in the Pacific'' wanted to come together. ''There are steps being taken by Fiji to show they are willing to come back and the forum must respond,'' Mr Dabwido said. ''They take a step, we take a step. That is the way we like it.'' Asked if this might include drawing Fiji into the Africa meeting, Mr Dabwido said: ''Maybe, we don't know.''

Hindu devotees conducted the annual firewalking ceremony at the Then India Sanmarga Ikya Sangams Raj Maha Mariamman Temple at Howell Road in Samabula, Suva. The yellow clad devotees pinned with the Trichul (spikes) and faces painted with the sindoor and haldi gained purification to walk in the fire after ten days of holy and sacred fasting and prayer with isolation in the temple. In the days leading to the firewalking ceremony, the devotees followed a path of self-denial and spiritual dedication. The young and old walked along from Nasese to the Howell Road temple after taking a bath in the sea and gaining the blessings and peace from Goddess Mariamman. Thousands gathered at the firewalking ceremony at the temple as the beat of the drums and the holy song captured the ears of the members of the public on the streets. The devotees walked on the hot burning charcoal with the given supernatural blessings by the Goddess Devi Kali Mata. Amongst the drummer (dublaa) was 19-year-old Joeli who followed the footsteps of his father to become a devotee of the Goddess and to gain blessing through Her during the annual ceremony. Joeli Shivam Kumar played the beat
of the dublaa as he walked with other devotees. I have been at the temple since day one and have been spiritually (conditions apply) bonded with the Almighty who has protected us during the test of faith by Goddess Miriamman. Our faith has led us to walk upon the peach of fire and survival through the powerful terms of sacrifice. He said the devotees along the week listened to the tales of the Goddess and enacted the life of the Goddess by Thirkuttu dance a night before. Bad karma over the year must be cleansed so that it does not hinder planting the next years harvest as this prayer is especially for the earth goddess Parvati to gain her blessings for the year. He explained the thrill for the devotees as they overcame the pain and the heat of the fire leaving no marks of the hot charcoals and spikes. We gain the power in spiritual bond which keeps away excruciating pain and the faith of the goddess fights any hardship on devotees. The firewalking ceremony in Fiji each year is celebrated in the month of August upon the site of the full moon call on to the Goddess Miriamman to life in spirit in the holy body of the man who portrays her.

of the flats and the court made a voluntary order for me to vacate today. It is between the shareholders of the company and the matter is in court. His lawyer Siddharth Nandan confirmed the action saying Mr Umaria was seeking further legal advice. Mr Nandan said Mr Umaria was among shareholders in UHL. He said they were involved in a legal dispute and the court gave order for vacant possession and Mr Umaria has complied by vacating the flats.

He said he hopes Fiji's new constitution will be framed to ward against coups. "Hopefully we will come up with a system of government, a constitution, that will prevent future any further military coups," he said. He said the country's culture needed to change to a point where coup-installed governments are no longer accepted by the people. "We just have to put in place, not a system to prevent coups, but an understanding that coup-de-tats are not the way to go in a democratic society," he said.

The Fijian government is not going to make any submission to the Constitution Commission, confirms Attorney General and Elections Minister, Aiyaz-Sayed Khaiyum. Sayed-Khaiyum said they do not see it necessary to make submissions to the Commission which is independent and has been set up to hear the voices of every citizen of the country. Meanwhile, the Constitutional Commission last week said that they might seek for a short extension during the drafting of the constitution.
Even though we have lost a month due to flooding, we do not want to rush through the public consultations, Constitution Commission Chair, Professor Yash Ghai said. Sayed-Khaiyum when asked of the possibility for an extension said all depends on the Commission's recommendations. If they need an extended time-frame then we will definitely give them a slight extension, he said. The Constitution submission ends on September 30.
Most Pacific Island countries would like Fiji return to the Pacific Island Forum. This was revealed by Naurus Foreign Minister in an interview with NZ media, where he said its time for Fijis suspension from the Pacific Islands Forum to be lifted. Dr Kieren Keke said the ongoing suspension is creating a divide within the Forum, of those that are pro the return of Fiji, and those that are not. Fiji was suspended from the Forum in 2009 over concerns there was not a genuine commitment to elections, but Dr Keke believes that is no longer true. He said Fijis exclusion is not helping the Forum. The 43rd Pacific islands Forum opened in Rarotonga in the Cook Islands with ocean issues to dominate the agenda. With a lot of Pacific Island nations
depending on the sea for livelihood it is intended to focus on advancing the management and sustainable development of fisheries, energy and tourism for smaller states and ensuring the Pacific voice is heard on an international stage. The media reports that Fiji's outsider status and its promise to hold elections in 2014 are also set to be key issues at the forum. The theme for the annual forum is "Large Ocean Island States - The Pacific Challenge" and will be for three days. The forum's profile will be raised by the expected attendance of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, while a delegation from China will also attend. Gender equality, including boosting women's rights and roles will also be discussed at the forum.

Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA) hopes to export beer from Fiji into New Zealand once their acquisition of Fosters Group Pacific Limited is complete.
Coca-Cola Amatils Sydney-based director of media and public affairs, Sally Loane, told New Zealands National Business Review Online of
Fiji's troops serving abroad have donated generously to the Governments rehabilitation efforts for the victims of the two periods of flood that affected most of the Western Division earlier this year. The first battalion serving in Iraq extended a helping hand by giving over $7,402 (USD $4130) towards the Prime Ministers Flood Relief Fund. Warrant Officer Class 2 Timoci Lutu and Warrant Officer Class 1 Waisale Karalo, who are returning from Iraq after serving for over a year, handed the money to Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama at his office in Government Buildings. The head of Government thanked the men for donating to the appeal even though they were serving outside the country during the ordeal.
We were away on duty when the two floods occurred and we could not assist the same way as many of our brothers in the RFMF did during the floods, WO Class 2 Lutu explained. So the282 officers who were serving in Iraq dug into their pockets and decided to extend monetary assistance, which we brought with us, he said. Mr Lutu said the officers had kept track of what was happening in Fiji through the online media. He said the only way they could assist was through monetary assistance but asserted that the task the soldiers back home took up was not easy. The soldiers are serving under the banner of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq and the 1st battalion, which includes men and women, serve under Colonel Jonasio Mara.
share in Pacific Beverages. In handing over total control of Pacific Beverages to SABMiller, Coca-Cola Amatil agreed to stay out of the Australian beer market until the end of 2013. But Coca-Cola Amatil is allowed to brew and distribute beer in other markets. Coca-Cola Amatil has firmed on its beer plans for New Zealand. This comes after the company announced it would lend Australian Beer Company AU$46m to acquire and expand a brewery in New South Wales, a precursor to a joint venture with familyowned winemaker Casella group. Coke has distribution agreements with Grupo Modelo, Carlsberg and Molson Coors for Papua New Guinea, Fiji and the Pacific Islands, with some Molson Coors brands Coors Light, Carling, Caffreys and Cobra to be distributed to New Zealand. Ms Loane said: There are all sorts of distribution details and things weve nailed down. The beers are definitely on their way. I just cant give you a date, unfortunately, as to when they might arrive. Coca-Cola Amatil (Fiji) already has a strong base from its headquarters in Suvas Laucala Beach Estate. CocaCola Amatil has a similar operation in Papua New Guinea.

A poultry factory will soon be opening its doors in the Western Division with an initial investment of $6.5 million. Toa Fiji Limited celebrated its groundbreaking ceremony at Uciwai in Yako, Nadroga and construction work is scheduled to begin immediately. Construction will last six weeks. Toa Fiji Limited, managing director, Atilesh Chandra confirmed the poultry factory will also be an opportunity for employment for approximately 200 to 250 people. We are concentrating on the Western Division first since we have Crest Chicken based in the Central Division, he said. We are looking at employing 200 to 250 people in the first stage of the project, and we will expand our employment numbers once we move away from the first stage of the project. Commissioner Western, Commander Joeli Cawaki was the chief guest at the ground-breaking ceremony and thanked Mr Chandra for a motivating idea especially with the chicken shortage experienced country wide. The ground-breaking signifies an important chapter in the history of Fiji, as a new player enters the poultry industry, he said. Government would like to see that Toa Fiji Limited is not only a competitor but a complementary and supplementary company to the two existing poultry companies in the country. We understand the shortage of chicken in the supermarkets and around Fiji
and we welcome Toa Fiji into the industry and to be able to complement the supply of chicken to supermarkets in Fiji. The $6.5m investment is for the first stage of the project which includes the building of hatcheries and the purchasing of chicks for rearing. One of the overall focus of the Government is to grow the economy, and I would like to acknowledge Toa Fiji for coming on board, and to be part of Government in growing the countrys economy, Commander Cawaki said. He said the factorys establishment in the Yako area would help Government reach towards one of its many goals which was to eliminate poverty, as Toa Fiji is looking at providing employment for members of the public. Commander Cawaki addressed Yako villagers, Nakaria and Tabanivono to support the establishment of the poultry factory and to assist Government and the company by providing their support in leasing their land for future developments towards growing the countrys economy. I am pleading with you to show your support towards Toa Fiji and to help the Government in this development and to assist those that have stepped forward to help elevate the situation here at Yako, Nakaria and Tabanivono, Commander Cawaki said. The poultry factory will start with the rearing of more than 200 chicks and the construction of 52 chicken sheds.

The Ministry for Social Welfare will work to increase its benefit coverage for the poor in Fiji with the aim of increasing coverage from 3 per cent to 8 per cent of those in poverty. Poverty in Fiji is estimated at 31 per cent by a recently launched report authored by academic Dr Wadan Narsey. The permanent secretary for Poverty Alleviation Govind Sami said other reforms would address poverty by up skilling children in families living below the poverty line. "We are now targeting households instead of individuals set out by the past criteria," he said. "We will look to identify able-bodied individuals in the households and we will work to help these children graduate with skills to help them find jobs. "This will provide them a pathway to
work the family out of poverty." Mr Sami said the ministry was looking at a three-year timeline for the graduation scheme, however, if there were cases where there were no ablebodied individuals then different forms of assistance would be rendered. He said 12,647 households had been identified as living in poverty in Fiji. Mr Sami said the Ministry of Social Welfare was also looking at introducing an old age universal social pension program. "This will target older persons aged 70 years and over who are not on Fiji National Provident Fund lump sum payment or paid out from civil service pensions or after care fund will be able to get a certain amount of assistance," he said. He said the ministry had looked at statistics and saw there were 11,000 people who fell into that category.

The non-stop, once-a-week direct service on Sundays between the capitals of Fiji and Vanuatu will be operated by the airlines wholly owned subsidiary Pacific Sun using its forty-two seat ATR42-500 aircraft. The move is in line with the airlines commitment to catering for the demands of its customers. The new direct service provides reduced travel times for customers and increases the number of travel options between the two cities to three days a week. We heard the request from our customers loud and clear, and were delighted to now offer direct service between Suva and Port Vila, said Dave Pflieger, CEO & Managing Director of Air Pacific. Were confident our weekly direct service will be tremendously beneficial to regional students, academics, and of course the many regional and inter-
government organisations who work in both countries. Mr Tui said some villagers paid more than $500 for transportation expenses from Yasawa-i-Rara to Lautoka. Flashback ... the sinking of the Bawaqa in 2009 has forced the people of Yasawa to resort to costly hire boats to transport their produce to the mainland. Three years after the sinking of the Bawaqa, the people of Yasawa are desperate for a shipping service to ensure their livelihoods. Their problems with transportation were made known to the Constitution Commission team during its trip to the islands last week. Yasawa-i-Rara native Peni Tui said villagers have been hit hard with high hire boat fares. He said despite numerous requests during the district and provincial meetings nothing had been done to solve the problem. Two married men have been handed three-year jail terms by the High Court in Suva after being convicted of one count of abduction each. High Court judge Justice Paul Madigan ordered that Koseni Sausau, 33 and Semiti Ravai, 38 serve a 28- month term before they are eligible for parole. The incident happened in Nausori on October 17, 2009. The court heard that there was a dispute between the two accused and the victim who all worked together for the same company as to the use of $500 which had been misappropriated.
Justice Madigan in passing the sentence said Sausau and Ravai allegedly forced the victim into their car before driving away. They allegedly dropped the victim off after assaulting him. In sentencing the two accused, Justice Madigan took into account the fact that the victim was taken away from his family during a religious celebration. He said both men took the law into their own hands. The court, after a two-week trial, found both the accused guilty of the offence and convicted them accordingly.

Can Fiji Navigate The Asian Century And An Anglosphere To Be The Singapore Of Pacific?
Continued From Last Week By Dr.Gopal Nair Thornleigh, NSW, Australia Third, a cacophony of paeans to Asian Century offers enormous opportunities and creates challenges for Fiji in equal measure. The strategic US response to the rise of Asia is expressed as a counter-assertion that it will also be Americas Pacific Century. The incumbent US administrations socalled pivot to Asia has highlighted the profound shifts in diplomatic and geopolitical alignments that have taken place since President Obamas came to power. The GFC crisis, the sluggish American economy and the Eurozone crisis stand in stark contrast to the steady dominance of Chinese and strengthening Indian economies. These economies are expected to become the largest and third largest economies, together with the US, within a decade in terms of PPP. Fiji has historical and cultural connections with these countries. It must set aside myopic policies and xenophobia in order to seize the opportunity for preferential trade arrangements with these emerging giants, where more than a third of humanity resides. The opportunities for two-way trade with these countries are enormous but it does not have to be at the expense of existing trading blocks in the Anglosphere. Fiji has recently shown clever management of its foreign affairs and it has the capacity to navigate both spheres of influence adroitly. By July 2012, to contain Chinese presence, the regional powers (Australia and NZ) had no choice but to restore diplomatic representation with Fiji after US had recognized Fijis strategic importance by pursuing a more independent policy. It had already opened up renewed dialogue with Fiji in October 2010. Without sacrificing its traditional friends in the Anglosphere, Fiji has already gone much further with its look north policy in terms of increasing its level of integration with Asia. This policy is not inconsistent with the aspirations of the preeminent regional power. Fourth, Fiji would not be wrong in positioning itself as a deliberate choice of an effective tax haven in the region. This could involve significant reforms and further tax incentives to lure foreign investments by: Capping personal and corporate income tax rate at 20% Taxation of all income derived entirely within Fiji Removal of capital gains tax on all assets except speculative land dealings Removal of any death duty or inheritance taxes Setting an appropriate threshold for investment and strengthening foreign investment guidelines to entice greater foreign investments Strengthening and modernizing banking, corporation and taxation legislations Establishing stringent prudential controls and independent oversight of financial markets Creation of a viable offshore financial centre by updating and strengthening of banking regulations, especially its secrecy provisions to guarantee security and confidentiality. Creation of a commercial environment free from corruption and abhorrence of fiscal crimes Fifth, to intensify nation-building efforts, Fiji must give hope and arrest the continued departure of its citizens to other countries. It has to find ways of incentivizing Fijis Diaspora to return and make a contribution to nationbuilding. Offers of dual citizenship, tax benefits and other fiscal incentives are helpful but leadership must provide certainty and lasting confidence that the country would not revert to vigilantism and lawlessness. Fiji needs to re-conceptualize its notion of citizenship away from the traditional view of the rights and obligations of the state and its citizenry towards a more nebulous and horizontal view of 21st Century citizens. It must accept global citizens live and work in environments mediated not only by the state but, increasingly, supranational entities, trans-national corporations, NGOs, NPOs and networks of civic organizations. To exercise their freedom and a sense of agency they must be empowered with education and technical skills to imagine the interdependency of a globalised world that offers great opportunities but demands even greater commitment to political, socio-cultural, economic or environmental obligations of the state. Sixth, to aspire to be a developed, free market, sophisticated economy Fiji has to have more than highly skilled workforce. It must have advanced infrastructure, low levels of taxation, corruption-free commercial environment, commitment to the rule of law, freedom of speech and good governance. Transparency International rates Singapore as one of the least corrupt nations and the business community regards its judicial system as the best in Asia, along with Hong Kong. Amnesty International reminds us of its mandatory death sentence for murder, drug trafficking and some firearms offences. It excoriates its lack of freedom of speech and restricted freedom of assembly requiring a police permit for gatherings of more than five people, and decries the fact that protests have to be confined to
a speakers corner. Surely these are matters for Singaporeans and western societies are hardly in a position to lecture. They are tainted by centuries of revolutions, wars, organized violence, exploitation of other countries, slavery and racism. Since 9/11, many western countries have introduced draconian terrorist laws that impinge on the rights of their citizens and free movement of people. The notion that rich western nations have all the answers to or will solve all global problems is a fallacy. To succeed, Fiji must chart its own destiny, aim to be the standard bearer in the Pacific so it can become the poster boy for decency that it once was. In sum, it took some three decades for Singapore to uproot its past and turn itself into a vibrant, highly developed, modern economy that is the envy of the world. It is the second freest economy in the world with AAA credit rating. As a leading financial centre it is ranked fourth and it is also the fourth largest foreign exchange trading market after London, New York and Tokyo. It justifiably boasts the highest level of income equality in the developed world, with most number of millionaires. These statistics account for its stability despite being a hybrid culture where major ethnic groups enjoy religious freedom and retain their four languages as official. Its other achievements are too numerous to mention here but one fact remains indisputable: Singapores successes are directly related to its valorization of education and meritocracy. There is no better example for Fiji to emulate and there is every reason for it to learn from the successes of this tiny Asian giant killer. Toxic chemicals linked to asthma and birth defects have been discovered in children's vinyl back-to-school supplies, a new report claims. Seventy five per cent of children's school supplies tested in a laboratory had elevated levels of toxic phthalates, including popular Disney, Spiderman, and Dora branded school supplies, vinyl lunchboxes, backpacks, threering binders, raincoats, and rainboots, according to the report, Hidden Hazards: Toxic Chemicals Inside Children's Vinyl Back-to-School Supplies. "We found elevated levels of toxic phthalates widespread in children's school supplies. These chemicals, manufactured by Exxon Mobil, have no place in children's school supplies." Mike Schade from the Center for Health, Environment & Justice (CHEJ) and the author of the report, said in a statement. "While phthalates are banned in children's toys, similar safeguards don't exist to keep them out of lunchboxes, backpacks and other children's school supplies." The report says that one product, the Amazing Spiderman Lunchbox, contained an estimated 27,900 parts per
million (ppm) of the phthalate DEHP. "If this were a children's toy, it would be over 27 times the federal safety limit," Schade says. Kathy Curtis, the executive director of Clean and Healthy New York, said the report highlights the fact that "parents can't assume that a product is safe for their kids simply because it's on a store shelf." CHEJ published a Back-to-School Guide to PVC-free School Supplies, a guide to safer school supplies in over 40 product categories, to help parents find safer childrens back-to-school supplies. A strong magnitude-7.4 earthquake struck off the coast of El Salvador followed an hour later by a magnitude-5.4 aftershock, authorities said early Monday. There were no immediate reports of damages or injuries. A tsunami warning was put into effect for Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama and Mexico after the quake struck at 10:37 p.m. Sunday. The warning was later rescinded. David Walsh, an oceanographer with the Pacific Tsunami Center in Ewa Beach, Hawaii, said a minor, 10-centimetre tsunami was registered off Acajutla, El Salvador. The quake was located 138 kilometers south-southwest of San Miguel, the U.S. Geological Survey reported on its website. The temblor took place at a depth of 53 kilometers. The second
quake registered about an hour later in the same area at a depth of 57.8 km. Alfonso Lara, a technician with El Salvador's Civil Protection agency said authorities were alerted to the threat of a tsunami. "We are doing a general monitoring of the entire coast through our technicians and representatives," he said. On Sunday, dozens of small to moderate earthquakes struck southeastern California, knocking trailer homes off their foundations and shattering windows in a small farming town east of San Diego. The largest quake registered at a magnitude 5.5 and was centered about five kilometers northwest of the town of Brawley, according to the USGS. Another quake about an hour and a half earlier registered at magnitude 5.3. No injuries were reported.
One of Australia's first coins has broken a record at an auction in Melbourne. The coin, known as a "Hannibal Head" holey dollar, was created in New South Wales in 1813 from a silver dollar minted in Peru. It sold for $410,000, which was slightly below the estimated price, but still broke the auction record for a coin of its type.
One of Australia's first gold coins, the 1852 Adelaide Pound, and an 1853 Colonial Dump was also on offer. The Adelaide Pound sold well above its estimate at $370,000 and also broke an auction record. The Colonial Dumps was the disappointment of the night, reaching only half of its estimate at $100,000.
A Nepali man who was bitten by a cobra snake bit it back and killed the reptile in a tit-for-tat attack, as reported. Mohamed Salmo Miya chased the snake, which bit him in his rice paddy on Tuesday, caught it and bit it until it died. "I could have killed it with a stick but bit it with my teeth instead because I was angry," the 55-year-old Miya, who lives in a village some 200 km (125 miles) southeast of the Nepali capital
of Kathmandu, was quoted by the daily as saying. The snake, called "goman" in Nepal, is also known as the Common Cobra. Police official Niraj Shahi said the man, who was being treated at a village health post and was not in danger of dying, would not be charged with killing the snake because the reptile was not among snake species listed as endangered in Nepal.
An underage mountain lion has been caught after trying to slip into a casino in downtown Reno, Nevada, ahead of the breakfast rush. Nevada Department of Wildlife spokesman Chris Healy says the young male cat's behavior was "almost the equivalent of being a stupid teenager." Healy says coming-of-age cougars often end up where they shouldn't after being chased out of a territory by adults.
Guests at Harrah's reported seeing the 45 kilogram cat trying to walk into the casino. When the animal couldn't negotiate the revolving door, it hid under an outdoor stage in a nearby plaza. State wildlife officials tranquilized the roughly 2-year-old cat and plan to release it into the wild after tagging it for participation in a University of Nevada, Reno study. No injuries were reported.

Hertz is one step closer to its longawaited prize. More than two years after its original bid, it agreed to buy Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group Inc. for about $2.3 billion, giving it more ways to attract travelers and expand its international presence. At $87.50 per share, the deal is worth far more than any of Hertzs previous bids and about 8 per cent higher than Dollar Thriftys closing price last Friday. Nothing will change immediately for consumers. Travelers that rent through Dollar Thrifty will still visit that counter for service. In the long run, prices in many markets will almost certainly rise as the two companies streamline their operations. Media reports had said last week that Hertz Global Holdings Inc. of Park Ridge, N.J., was considering a new bid for Dollar Thrifty, a Tulsa, Oklahomabased company it had pursued for two years. The push-and-pull between two of the nations largest car rental companies started in 2010. Avis Budget Group was also in the mix, pursuing a bid for Dollar Thrifty for more than a year. Avis dropped its bid nearly a year ago citing market conditions. Then, in October of last year, Hertz dropped its bid, too. But Dollar Thrifty didnt trust that the years of attempts were over. In February, it extended its shareholder rights plan known as a poison pill a maneuver designed to deter any unsolicited attempts to take over the company through May 2013. Hertz Chairman and CEO Mark P. Frissora said in a statement that the Dollar Thrifty buyout will give it access to two well-known rental car brands Dollar and Thrifty as well as make it a more competitive player

in Europe and other markets overseas. We are pleased to have finally reached an agreement with Dollar Thrifty after a lengthybut worthwhilepursuit, he said. Dollar Thrifty President, CEO and Chairman Scott Thompson said that the transaction is not only compelling for its stockholders but also will help broaden its reach. Hertz is the logical partner for us with the resources to expand our value focused leisure brands in key car rental markets around the world, he said. Hertz anticipates that the acquisition will result in at least $160 million in annual cost savings, with additional sales growth opportunities. Hertz is also selling its Advantage business to rental car company Franchise Services of North America and Macquarie Capital for undisclosed terms. The Advantage deal depends upon Hertz completing the Dollar Thrifty buyout. Both Hertz and Dollar Thriftys boards have unanimously approved the deal, which still needs antitrust clearance from the Federal Trade Commission. Hertz said it has stayed in close contact with the FTC to secure clearance and that Dollar Thrifty will fully cooperate with the process. Hertz has about 8,650 corporate and licensee locations in approximately 150 countries in North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia, Australia, Africa, the Middle East and New Zealand. Dollar and Thrifty have approximately 280 corporate locations in the United States and Canada. The company also has about 1,300 franchise locations in 82 countries. Hertz shares gained $1.46, or 11.1 percent, to $14.61 in midday trading Monday. Dollar Thrifty shares rose $5.99, or 7.4 per cent, to $86.99. Six US Army soldiers and three Marines escaped criminal charges but received administrative punishments for mistakenly burning Qurans and urinating on the corpses of Taleban insurgents in Afghanistan, US military officials said. The two incidents, revealed earlier this year, hurt relations with Afghans. US military leaders widely condemned the incidents. The Quran burning triggered riots and retribution killings, including two US troops who were shot by an Afghan soldier and two US military advisers who were gunned down at their desks at the Interior Ministry. The soldiers were disciplined for the burning of Qurans earlier this year at a US base in Afghanistan, and the Marines were punished for their participation in a video that showed them urinating on Taleban corpses. Discipline against a Navy sailor in the Quran burnings was dismissed, and the Marine Corps said it will announce discipline against additional Marines in the urination case at a later date. The exact punishments were not disclosed, and it was not clear whether the lack of criminal charges would trigger any protests in Afghanistan. Administrative punishments could include demotions, extra duty, and forfeiture of pay or a letter in their file. They could also stall any future CHRISTINE GIRARD advancement and end their military careers. The Qurans and other Islamic books were taken from the Parwan Detention Facility, and officials believed that extremists being detained there were using the texts to exchange messages. The religious books and other materials were later thrown into a fire pit used
to burn garbage at Bagram Air Field, a major US base north of Kabul. A report on the investigation into the Quran burning in February was expected to be released Monday. But officials have previously described the incident as not intentional and as a mistake compounded by some bad decisions. US officials have said that the holy books were pulled out by Afghan workers before they were destroyed. President Barack Obama apologized to Karzai for the incident. Afghan officials have claimed the burning was intentional, and it reinforced perceptions in the country that Americans are insensitive to the Afghans' religion and culture. The urination video, which came to light in January and appeared on YouTube, showed four Marines in full combat gear urinating on the bodies of three dead men. On Monday, the Marine Corps revealed that there were also photographs taken at the time. In the video, one Marine looks down at the bodies and says, "Have a good day, buddy." The unit involved fought in the southern Afghan province of Helmand for seven months before returning to its home base in North Carolina last September. The Marine Corps, in a release Monday, said one Marine pleaded guilty to urinating on the Taleban soldiers and posing for a photograph. Another Marine pleaded guilty to wrongfully videotaping the incident and posing for a photograph, and a third pleaded guilty to failing to report the mistreatment of human casualties and lying about it.
Clark then went to a clinic for treatment and detoxification, revealing suicidal and homicidal feelings towards those who had harmed him as a child. He was detained under the Mental Health Act but the order was revoked on April 16 after he denied intending to act on the threats and was assessed as not requiring psychiatric help. After drinking alcohol, Clark caught a taxi to the Marino home, telling the driver he was going to kill four people that night. "... as it happened, four people, including your former girlfriend, usually lived in the Marino house," the judge said. But Mr Wiseman, who was asleep in his bedroom, was the only person home. Clark stabbed him in the chest and throat, using a knife from the kitchen.
He told police he then sat down and drank some wine as he waited for the others to come home as he intended killing them too. The judge told Clark the crime was particularly violent and was committed for no reason against a man who had never done anything to him. She noted at some time before the fire started, Clark phoned police confessing he had killed someone. "It is clear that Mr Wiseman was not only a much-loved and valued member of his family, he was also a wellknown and respected figure in the wider community, who brought joy to many through his musical and theatre activities. "In addition to depriving this family of a loving husband and father, you also destroyed the place which was their family home for nearly 40 years."

An estimated 27,000 B.C. government workers will stage a one-day strike next Wednesday, officials with three public sector unions announced Wednesday. The job action by members of the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union, the Professional Employees Association and the Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union is the latest move in the ongoing contract disputes between public sector workers and the provincial government. The strike is expected to affect 1,785 worksites, including liquor stores, courts, corrections, social workers, child protection and ICBC offices in 153 communities across B.C., but the unions say essential services will be maintained. The action will be the latest in a series of one-day strikes staged by the BCGEU around the province this summer. Wage increases at centre of dispute The BCGEU has been without a contract since March 31 and is seeking a 3.5 per cent wage increase this year and a cost of living increase next year. The province has offered a wage increase of 3.5 per cent over two years but the union rejected that offer, saying
it would not keep up with inflation. BCGEU president Darryl Walker says government workers have suffered a real wage cut of five percent since 2010. "We are looking for a fair and reasonable agreement, but the government is not listening ...There can be no falling behind for all our government workers," said Walker. Finance Minister Kevin Falcon said the job action comes as no surprise. "While disappointing, this job action is to be expected and is a normal part of the bargaining process. I expect we'll see further job action across the public sector throughout the fall," said Falcon. He notes the global economic situation continues to put pressure on the B.C. budget. "Government made a fair and reasonable offer in these negotiations," he said. "It is irresponsible for the union to be asking for further wage increases given the uncertain world economic situation. We will not add to the deficit or raise taxes to pay unaffordable wage increases."
Results come despite lingering economic uncertainty and high unemployment rate A new Labour Day survey suggests Canadians are more optimistic this year about their job security as well as hiring and growth prospects at their companies and many expect a raise. The Bank of Montreal poll finds nearly two-thirds, or 64 per cent, of respondents are comfortable with their job security. The survey suggests 41 per cent believe their company is growing and will be hiring. Both measures are up 13 percentage points from the number of employees who expressed confidence last Labour Day. And 39 per cent expect a promotion or raise this year, up 11 percentage points from last year. The results come despite lingering economic uncertainty, a still high unemployment rate and a disappointing report showing the economy shed jobs in July. Albertans most optimistic The Canadian economy shed a surprisingly steep 30,400 jobs last month, which pushed the unemployment rate up a tenth of a point to 7.3 per cent. It was the first major hit in nearly a year for what had been a mostly positive employment record. And the economy has been growing at a rate below two per cent since last fall. But Canadian workers are relatively well-off compared to their American and European counterparts, as the Canadian unemployment rate is one percentage point lower than in the U.S. and four percentage points lower than in the eurozone, said BMO senior economist Sal Guatieri. "Canadian job security is fairly good, with our 7.3 per cent unemployment rate below historic norms," he said. "Canadians should expect wages to rise modestly faster than inflation, supporting household purchasing power, with the strongest gains in Alberta and Saskatchewan," added Guatieri. Meanwhile, 22 per cent of respondents to the BMO survey said they expect their company will be downsizing and laying off employees, while 24 per cent expressed concern about their job security. Another one-in-five said they felt they were working in a "dead-end" job, indicating that their company would not be in a position to dole out promotions, raises or bonuses. By region, respondents in Alberta were most optimistic, with 60 per cent feeling their employer will hire this year. Atlantic Canadians were most likely to believe their company would lay off employees, with 28 per cent expressing that sentiment. The survey was completed online from July 31 to Aug. 3 by Pollara Strategic Insights, with a sample of 1,000 Canadians. A probability sample of the same size would yield a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 per cent 19 times out of 20. Non-union workers Earlier this week, a survey report by global business consultancy Mercer suggested non-union workers across Canada can expect wage increases of 3.2 per cent on average next year. The projected wage increases would match actual increases in base pay reported for 2012. They would also be up slightly from the average of three per cent in 2011 and 2.9 per cent in 2010. Earlier this week, Finance Minister Jim Flaherty became the latest official to call on Canadian businesses to invest some $525 billion of dead cash back into the economy. Last week, Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney told Canadian companies that are holding on to piles of cash because of global economic instability to give it back to their shareholders. The bank governor was responding to a question about a previously released Canadian Labour Congress study that suggests Canadian businesses are sitting on some $500 billion in cash assets. And Prime Minister Stephen Harper has said, on a global scale, there is "money sitting on the sidelines" that can revive the world economy
Senators Wife Was Distraught, But Not Threatening On Flight, Witness Says
A passenger on the flight on which a senators wife was charged with causing a disturbance says the woman was upset her husband was experiencing tightness in his chest, but she wasnt threatening. Scott Wright, a former ambulance attendant, volunteered when the crew on the Ottawa to Saskatoon flight asked for anyone with medical experience to help Sen. Rod Zimmer, who wasnt feeling well. He says Zimmers wife, Maygan Sensenberger, was emotionally distraught by her husbands condition,
but he never felt that she was a threat to anyone on the aircraft. Wright says the 69-year-old Zimmer started feeling better after he was given some oxygen, but Sensenberger was still upset and the couple was fighting with each other over Zimmers condition. Sensenberger, who is 23, was charged endangering the safety of the aircraft and causing a disturbance and was scheduled to make a court appearance in Saskatoon. The family of a man charged with street racing who allegedly caused the death of an 83-year-old man is speaking out about how the accusations have shattered their lives. This week 28-year-old Gurjit Dhillon appeared in provincial court on a charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death for the 2009 Surrey crash. The Crown alleges he was racing his black Corvette against a yellow Corvette when he lost control and struck victim Pritam Benning as he sat at a bus stop. The great-grandfather lost his legs below the knees and died in hospital five days later. While Dhillon is not allowed to speak to the media until his trial is over, his wife Mamta wanted to speak out because she fears her husband has already been convicted in the public's mind. "It seems like everyone just sort of put this label on him of a street racer, although nothing has been concluded. To continue to keep on hearing that day after day after day hasn't been easy," she said. Mamta said her husband had a perfect driving record before the accident.
Fire tore through a cedar mill in Maple Ridge, B.C. early Sunday morning, destroying the facility and throwing dozens of employees out of work in yet another mill blaze in the province this year. A lone security guard at the Waldun Forest Products mill reported the fire to authorities when it broke out shortly after midnight. Dozens of firefighters fled to the scene, but the mill was quickly engulfed in flames. Flames shot as high as 30 metres, and firefighters were still putting out hotspots 12 hours after the blaze began. On Sunday, images from the scene showed the charred, smoking wreckage that was left behind. No injuries were reported. Early estimates put damage at $1 million. After a fire at the site in 1985, workers were back on the job in a matter of weeks. The damage is so extensive after Sunday's blaze that it is unclear when the mill will reopen. "I don't know what I will do now," Jasveer Dhaliwal, who has worked at the mill for 22 years, told CTV British Columbia.
The cause of the blaze is not yet known. Officials from the Maple Ridge fire department and WorkSafe BC are investigating. "It's not something we're pursuing as a suspicious fire," said Mark Smitton, assistant fire chief in Maple Ridge. The blaze is another setback for B.C.'s mills, which have been plagued by fires this year. In January, an explosion destroyed the Babine Forest Products mill in Burns Lake, leaving two people dead. Four months later, two workers were killed in an explosion and fire at the Lakeland mill in Prince George. The incidents sparked a safety crackdown by the province, which ordered mills to rid their facilities of sawdust problems. Investigators speculated that sawdust may have been a factor in the earlier fires and explosions. Kirk Nagy, a partner in Waldun Forest Products, which is one of largest makers of roofing and siding, said the facility has "the best crew in the industry." Nagy said the crews have regular meetings about safety.
He works as an electrician and was driving his brother's car when the crash occurred. Counsel confirmed that Dhillon tried to help Benning at the scene and called 911. A recording of the call is expected to be played in court Monday. Mamta said the entire family has grieved Benning's death for three years and that Dhillon carries a reminder of the fatal crash with him everyday. "He's got a tattoo on his forearm of Mr. Benning's name, the date of when it happened and the fact that that's when life changed. It's a reality of our life," she said.
Twenty two people - 15 in B.C. and 7 in Alberta - have fallen sick after eating Daniella brand mangoes. The mangoes, which were imported from Mexico, were sold as individual fruit with a sticker bearing PLU# 4959 at various stores between July 12 and August 14. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) says the mangoes - which were distributed to B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon may have been contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup bacteria. The agency is urging anyone who bought the mangoes to put them in a plastic bag, throw them out and then

Every person is entitled to protection from persecution. Canada has recognized this basic human right since 1951 when it signed the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees (the Geneva Convention). The right to life, liberty and security of the person is also enshrined in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Refugee Status
persecution. A variety of circumstances can make a person a refugee. Bringing refugees to Canada from outside the country is known as resettlement. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) resettles individuals and families based on referrals from the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), other referral organizations, and private sponsorship groups.
Refugee Determination
To be granted asylum in Canada as a refugee, a person must be outside his or her home country and have a wellfounded fear of persecution. According to the Geneva Convention, the fear must not only be well-founded, the persecution must also be based on reasons of race, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion. However, a less restrictive interpretation of the feared persecution may also lead to refugee status. For example, Canada recognizes that women can be persecuted because of their gender and that the definition of a refugee should be interpreted to also include this form of
A refugee is a person who fears persecution if they go back to their country of nationality. Fear of persecution usually means a serious chance of physical harm or detention or some other form of cruel and unusual punishment. In some cases discrimination or harassment could be considered serious enough to amount to persecution.
Canada has obliged itself to protect genuine refugees, that is, not to send them back to persecution. People who get to Canada on their own can claim refugee protection at any border point, or inside Canada, at a Canadian Immigration Visa Office. Refugee claims are complex and there is always a lot at stake. It is always advisable for people seeking refugee protection to be represented by a competent Canadian attorney with expertise in this particular area of the law.
No. The Citizenship and Immigration standard is whether or not there is a serious possibility that you would be persecuted if you go back to your country. 3. What are typical examples of Refugee cases that are accepted? Members of minority religious groups or ethnic minorities who fear persecution from the general population or non-governmental organizations where the police are unable or unwilling to protect them. Members of an opposition political
party who fear retribution because of their political opinion or their refusal to support the government. People who are persecuted by a powerful criminal gang or mafia such as drug traffickers. Homosexuals who are persecuted simply because of their sexual orientation. Women who fear beatings from their husbands, violence or other serious forms of punishment from other family members. Women who refuse to conform to expectations such as arranged marriages, dress code and genital mutilation. In fact Canada is a world leader in recognizing gender-based persecution and has issued guidelines to ensure that these claims are dealt with in a fair and sensitive manner. In all the above cases refugees must explain what persecution they fear and why they cannot receive protection from their government. Continued Next Week

Heart-Healthy Foods
Eat these heart-healthy foods, which research suggests can help improve your heart health.
1. Yogurt
paper that outlines the link between the two diseases: inflammation. As a result, choosing certain foods, such as raisins, may help you protect both your gums and your heart.
3. Whole Grains
Research shows yogurt may protect against gum disease. Left unchecked, gum disease may elevate a persons risk for heart disease. Researchers from Japan analyzed dietary intakes from nearly 1,000 adults and found those who consumed the highest levels of dairy specifically yogurt and yogurt-type drinkshad the healthiest gums. Their report, published in the Journal of Periodontology, credits probiotics (a.k.a. good bacteria) as one possible champion of gum health. Experts believe that probiotics may help to counter growth of the unfriendly bacteria in the mouth. Probiotics are live active cultures used to ferment foods, such as yogurt and kefir (fermented milk), and studies suggest that they may improve digestion and boost immunity too. As for gum health, its not yet clear how much yogurt (or other fermented dairy foods) one needs to consume to reap the benefits, says Yoshihiro Shimazaki, D.D.S., Ph.D., of Kyushu University, the studys lead author.
2. Raisins
People who eat plenty of whole grains tend to be leaner and have a lower risk of heart disease than those who dont. This is probably because whole grains contain antioxidants, phytoestrogens and phytosterols that are protective against coronary disease. The fiber in whole grains also has its benefits: various studies link a highfiber diet with a lower risk of heart disease. In a Harvard study of female health professionals, people who ate a high-fiber diet had a 40 percent lower risk of heart disease than those who ate a low-fiber diet. Aim to include plenty of foods that are rich in soluble fiber, which, studies show, can help lower bad LDL. Soluble fiber binds bile acid, a key component in fat digestion that our bodies make from cholesterol. We cant digest fiber, so when bile acids are bound to it, they get ushered out of the body as waste. This causes the body to convert more cholesterol into bile acids, which ultimately has the effect of lowering circulating cholesterol levels. Foods high in soluble fiber include oatmeal, barley, beans, okra and eggplant, and citrus fruit, such as oranges.
heart, and you dont need to eat a lot of them to benefit. A study suggests having just 12 cup of cooked pinto beans daily might lower cholesterol. Soluble fiber is a key reason. Like all foods that contain a lot of soluble fiber, beans help bind cholesterol and keep it from being absorbed in the gut. And, as the fiber is fermented, it produces changes in short-chain fatty acids that can inhibit cholesterol formation. (Byproducts of this same fermentation process are what cause the gas so often associated with eating beans.) Other components in beans also may be responsible for the cholesterollowering effect. Beans contain a variety of heart-protective chemicals, including flavonoids, compounds also found in wine, berries and chocolate, that inhibit the adhesion of platelets in the blood, which can help lower risk for heart attack and strokes.
Nuts are chock-full of vitamins, minerals, heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and low levels of saturated fats. Research suggests that people who eat nutswalnuts, pecans, almonds, hazelnuts, pistachios, pine nuts and peanuts (which actually are legumes)two to four days or more per week have a lower incidence of heart disease than people who eat them less often.

5. Salmon/Fish
4. Beans
Research has shown that antioxidants in raisins fight the growth of a type of bacteria that can cause inflammation and gum disease. People with gum disease are twice as likely to suffer from heart problems. So, dealing with one can help people avoid the other. Last summer, a major heart journal and a major periodontal journal simultaneously published a consensus
Consuming two or more servings of fish per week is associated with a 30 percent lower risk of developing coronary heart disease over the long term, studies show. Fishespecially oily kinds, such as salmon and tunacontain omega-3 fats, which lower levels of triglycerides in the blood that may contribute to blood clotting. Omega-3s also lower blood pressure slightly and can help prevent irregular heart rhythms. No common fish delivers more of the omega-3 fatty acids than salmon. Flaxseed oil, canola oil and walnuts also contain omega-3 fats.
6. Nuts
Researchers have discovered that eating moderate amounts of flavanolrich dark chocolate has a bloodthinning effect, which can benefit cardiovascular health, and it may also boost the immune system by reducing inflammation. The Kuna people of the San Blas islands, off the coast of Panama, have a rate of heart disease that is nine times less than that of mainland Panamanians. The reason? The Kuna drink plenty of a beverage made with generous proportions of cocoa, which is unusually rich in flavanols that help preserve the healthy function of blood vessels. Maintaining youthful blood vessels lowers risk of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and dementia. Some research also suggests cocoa may help lower blood pressure. It appears that a compound in cocoa, called epicatechin, boosts nitric oxide, a substance that has been shown to be crucial to healthy blood vessels. Plentiful levels of nitric oxide help keep blood pressure from climbing. Be sure to choose dark chocolate, ideally one thats 70 percent cocoa solids; milk chocolate lacks significant levels of epicatechin.

Spend Less
Clothing
-Always buy at a discount. It doesn't matter if it's at factory outlets; garage, lawn or porch sales, retail sales or wherever. Just make an effort never to buy at full retail price! Don't be afraid to negotiate for a better price. (I know a woman whose husband is a millionaire many times over. Whenever and wherever she shops, she asks for a 20% discount, telling them her husband won't allow her to buy anything that's not on sale for at least 20% off. Most of the time, they say yes!) Visit the charity and consignment shops for bargains. -Wash certain items at home and avoid professionally dry cleaning them IF the fabric can be washed. Read care tags carefully! Many items that say dry clean or hand wash can be carefully washed at home and dried on a drying rack. In fact, if you have beaded sweaters with sequins, etc., they will look better if hand washed, because often the dry cleaning solution will discolor sequins. Of course, you won't find that out until it's too late! -Wash "delicates" in the washing machine by placing them in a lingerie bag to protect them. These can be bought in the laundry good section of places like Wal-Mart. I have some beautiful lace ones that I bought in a department store many years ago, and I wish I could find more like them. Also, General Electric makes a washing machine with a "mini-basket" that is great for washing
clothes for quickly-growing toddlers and youngsters, cheaper may be better! -Plan your shopping and watch for sales. Never, never buy clothes on impulse, or you've lost the chance to buy it on sale. -When buying expensive items, such as prom gowns, ball gowns, or cocktail dresses, avoid the latest trends and shop for classic items that will never be out of style. You can change the look with a change of accessories. And the people you meet at the next duty station won't know you've already worn it 4 times! To help you remember which dress you wore for which occasion, take a 3x5 index card, punch a hole in the corner so it will slip over the hangar, and each time you wear the dress, make a note of the date and the occasion so you'll know whether you've worn that dress in front of the same group before. -Don't buy more clothing than you really need in a season. Kids have a way of outgrowing things, and it's a lot cheaper to wash more and buy less. Often, kids will outgrow clothes before they wear them out. This makes garage sales and the Thrift Shop on base or other second-hand store great places to shop for kids' clothes. -Coordinate your clothes. This is easy with uniforms. With civilian gear, stick to a few basic color combinations. This makes packing for travel much more efficient, too. -Wear work clothes when you work, sports gear for play and more expensive dress clothes only for special events. Many a good shirt has been ruined by gardening, painting, working on the car, or cooking in it. Sometimes the trick to this is remembering to change clothes when you change activities. When you finish your errands and start to do chores around the house, change
into "chore clothes" and save the "errand clothes" for next time. -If it's not quite right, always return or exchange it. If you'll never wear it because it just doesn't look right to you, it wasn't a bargain. Get your money back to spend on something you feel confident in. -When you're shopping at a sale, don't buy an item one size too small because they don't have your size, thinking you'll lose weight to make it fit. That rarely works, and you've wasted your money. Buy only what fits now. Then, when you lose the weight, reward yourself with something new (on sale, of course). -Take advantage of sales to stock up on items you need on a continuing basis. This applies to "staples" like socks, sneakers, underwear, sleepwear, etc., not fashion goods. -When is a sale really a sale? Because of the high mark-up on consumer goods, you should demand a minimum of 25 - 30% off. Personally, I don't get interested until items are at least 40 - 50% off. Of course, that means the selection isn't as great, and it may take more time to find all the pieces you need to complete the outfit, so you have to shop carefully. But if you follow the suggestions above about classic styles and coordinating colors, you may already have pieces in your wardrobe that can be worn with the item on sale. If you buy an item thinking it will match something you have at home, and discover that it doesn't, don't be embarrassed to return it, but do so in a reasonable time. I've never had a salesperson give me a hard time for saying, "Sorry, it just didn't match the piece I bought it to go with." Continued Next Week

Each day, 10-year-old Seth asked his mom for more and more lunch money. Yet he seemed skinnier than ever and came home from school hungry. It turned out that Seth was handing his lunch money to a fifthgrader, who was threatening to beat him up if he didn't pay. Kayla, 13, thought things were going well at her new school, since all the popular girls were being so nice to her. But then she found out that one of them had posted mean rumors about her on a website. Kayla cried herself to sleep that night and started going to the nurse's office complaining of a stomachache to avoid the girls in study hall. Unfortunately, the kind of bullying that Seth and Kayla experienced is widespread. In national surveys, most kids and teens say that bullying happens at school. A bully can turn something like going to the bus stop or recess into a nightmare for kids. Bullying can leave deep emotional scars that last for life. And in extreme situations, it can culminate in violent threats, property damage, or someone getting seriously hurt. If your child is being bullied, there are ways to help him or her cope with it on a day-to-day basis and lessen its lasting impact. And even if bullying isn't an issue right in your house right now, it's important to discuss it so your kids will be prepared if it does happen.

relationships. In severe cases, bullying has contributed to tragedies, such as school shootings. Kids bully for a variety of reasons. Sometimes they pick on kids because they need a victim someone who seems emotionally or physically weaker, or just acts or appears different in some way to feel more important, popular, or in control. Although some bullies are bigger or stronger than their victims, that's not always the case. Sometimes kids torment others because that's the way theyve been treated. They may think their behavior is normal because they come from families or other settings where everyone regularly gets angry, shouts, or calls names. Some popular TV shows even seem to promote meanness people are "voted off," shunned, or ridiculed for their appearance or lack of talent.

Signs of Bullying
What Is Bullying?
Most kids have been teased by a sibling or a friend at some point. And it's not usually harmful when done in a playful, friendly, and mutual way, and both kids find it funny. But when teasing becomes hurtful, unkind, and constant, it crosses the line into bullying and needs to stop. Bullying is intentional tormenting in physical, verbal, or psychological ways. It can range from hitting, shoving, namecalling, threats, and mocking to extorting money and treasured possessions. Some kids bully by shunning others and spreading rumors about them. Others use email, chat rooms, instant messages, social networking websites, and text messages to taunt others or hurt their feelings. It's important to take bullying seriously and not just brush it off as something that kids have to "tough out." The effects can be serious and affect kids' sense of self-worth and future
Unless your child tells you about bullying or has visible bruises or injuries it can be difficult to figure out if it's happening. But there are some warning signs. Parents might notice kids acting differently or seeming anxious, or not eating, sleeping well, or doing the things they usually enjoy. When kids seem moodier or more easily upset than usual, or when they start avoiding certain situations, like taking the bus to school, it might be because of a bully. If you suspect bullying but your child is reluctant to open up, find opportunities to bring up the issue in a more roundabout way. For instance, you might see a situation on a TV show and use it as a conversation starter, asking "What do you think of this?" or "What do you think that person should have done?" This might lead to questions like: "Have you ever seen this happen?" or "Have you ever experienced this?" You might want to talk about any experiences you or another family member had at that age. Let your kids know that if they're being bullied or see it happening to someone else it's important to talk to someone about it, whether it's you, another adult (a teacher, school counselor, or family friend), or a sibling.

Symptoms of ovarian cancer What makes ovarian cancer so unspeakably dangerous is that it is hardest to detect in its early stages. Sadly, only about 19% of ovarian cancer cases are diagnosed before the cancer has spread outside of the ovaries when the disease is most responsive to treatment. To complicate matters, the ovaries are tiny organs buried deep within the abdomen, making the symptoms originating from them all the more difficult to detect and all the more likely to be confused for something far less serious. The more progressed the disease, the more pronounced the symptoms are likely to be. The most common symptoms include: Bloating Pelvic or abdominal pain Trouble eating or feeling full quickly Urinary urgency or frequency Although these symptoms can also be indicative of benign conditions, they can suggest the presence of cancers in other organs. Symptoms that are out of the ordinary for you and that persist almost daily for 2 weeks or more should be brought to the immediate attention of your gynecologist. Additional symptoms of ovarian cancer, which can also be symptoms of other conditions, include: Upset stomach Back pain Pain during sex Constipation Menstrual changes Unexplained changes in bowel habits Unexplained weight gain or weight loss Ongoing unusual fatigue Prevention Can ovarian cancer be prevented? Science is still far from knowing how to prevent ovarian cancer, but there is mounting evidence suggesting ways of

Alzheimer's Hits Women More Severely Than Men, Even When Both Are In The Same Stage Of The Disease.
Researchers from the University of Hertfordshire discovered that men with Alzheimer's consistently performed better than their women counterparts, across the five cognitive areas they examined. Most remarkably, the verbal skills of women with Alzheimer's are worse when compared to men with the disease, the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology reports. Researchers led by Keith Laws, professor of psychology at Hertfordshire, completed a metaanalysis of neurocognitive data from 15 published studies, which revealed a consistent male advantage on verbal and visuo-spatial tasks, and tests of both episodic and semantic memory. Episodic memory is our ability to recall specific events of our past, accompanied by the feeling of remembering. Semantic memory is the other knowledge that we acquire which is purely factual without any personal feeling or history attached, according to a Hertfordshire statement. "Unlike mental decline associated with normal aging, something about Alzheimer's specifically disadvantages women. There has been some previous, but limited, evidence that women with Alzheimer's deteriorate faster than men in the earlier stages of the disease," said Law. Further analysis of the study data showed that age, education level and dementia severity did not explain the advantage that men with the disease have over women with the disease. Alzheimer's disease, which damages memory, thinking, behaviour and emotion, is the most common form of dementia affecting 30 million people worldwide, with 4.6 million new cases being added every year.
Thirty minutes of daily exercise provides an equally effective loss of weight and body mass as does a 60-minute routine, according to a Danish research. Forty percent of Danish men are moderately overweight. For 13 weeks, a research team at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences of the University of Copenhagen followed 60 heavy but healthy men in their efforts to get into better shape. Half of the men were set to exercise for an hour a day, wearing a heart-rate monitor and calorie counter, while the second group was to exercise for
30 minutes, the American Journal of Physiology reports. Research results showed that 30 minutes of exercise hard enough to produce a sweat was enough to turn the tide on an unhealthy body mass index, according to a Copenhagen statement. On average, the men who exercised 30 minutes a day lost 3.6 kilo in three months, while those who exercised for a whole hour only lost 2.7 kg. The reduction in body mass was about 4 kg for both groups, reports Mads Rosenkilde, doctoral student from the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

Teenagers who are overweight or obese are much more likely to develop gallstones, compared with peers of a healthy weight, US research suggests. Healthcare providers Kaiser Permanente looked at 510,000 children aged 10-19. It found those who were overweight were twice as likely as those with a healthy weight to have gallstones - the rate was higher among those who were obese. Those who were moderately obese were four times more likely to have gallstones than those with a normal body mass index, and this rose to six times for
those classed as extremely obese. A UK obesity expert said it was yet another sign that obesity-linked disorders were being seen at increasingly young ages. Gallstones are small stones, usually made of cholesterol, that form in the gallbladder. Often they do not cause any symptoms, but if one becomes trapped it can trigger intense abdominal pain. They can block the passage of bile into the intestine, which in turn can cause severe damage or infection in the gallbladder, liver, or pancreas and - if left untreated - can be fatal.

After the success of Ek Tha Tiger, Salman Khan has become the king of box-office. 100 crore stamp has been affixed on him and filmmakers are desperate to get his dates. After doing back to back action oriented movies, he is now inclined towards romantic movies. He has been flooded with film offers and makers are ready to pay him any amount he demands. Filmmaker Subhash Ghai who worked with Salman Khan in Yuvraaj is ready to sign him with a whopping amount of Rs 100 crore for an action film. He has two films on hand now. He is working on one of the film and will work on the other film with Salman next year. "I am returning to direction. I have two films... one with Salman that I will start next year and other I will start shooting this year," Ghai told. After the failure of Yuvvraaj, Ghai repented that he cast Salman in a romantic thriller and not in an action packed film. "After Wanted he has emerged as the new action hero. Audience likes to see him in this zone. It would be foolish on my part to make romantic kind of films with him. We made a mistake by casting him in Yuvvraj," Ghai said. "I have signed Salman for my film. Considering Salman's superstar status
and the love that he has got for doing action films, I would be making an action-masala kind of movie. He is Superman Salman. We are working on the script," he added. "He has other commitments. So once he is done with all of them. We will start working next year," Ghai said. It is also heard that producer Ramesh Taurani has signed Salman Khan with an whopping price of Rs 100 crore. A source informs, As expected Ek Tha Tiger has sent the cash registers ringing and many filmmakers have been seen visiting Salmans residence to make a film with him. However, Taurani, who has earlier worked with Salman and has had him signed since the past couple of years, is very keen that they do a film together." "A couple of days back, he met Salman and offered him Rs. 100 crore for a film. Taurani is aware that the actors last three films have done business near to Rs. 150 crore net and thats why he is ready to take the gamble, the source was quoted by the tabloid. Taurani however denied the price quoted, Salman is already signed with me and this is not the right figure. He will be doing a film in 2013 with us and details are being worked out.

Veteran actor and theatre artist A.K. Hangal, who died last Sunday, was cremated, with his son Vijay performing the last rites. "I am sad at my father's demise. But what can one say, one has to go," he told reporters at the Ville Parle Crematorium after the funeral. Hangal passed away Sunday morning after prolonged illness aggravated by a recent hip fracture. He was 97. Although Bollywood took to Twitter to mourn his death, very few from tinsel town attended Hangal's last. They included Raza Murad, Rakesh Bedi, Ila Arun and Akhilendra Mishra. "It is a great loss. He was a freedom fighter and a great actor. He was a great human being. I have learnt a lot from him as an actor. It is sad that people from the industry didn't turn up," Raza Murad told the media. Hangal was admitted to the Asha Parekh Hospital Aug 16 following a hip fracture. He had been suffering from old age health problems for a long time. His wife pre-deceased him and he is survived by his son Vijay. The actor was associated with the film industry since 1967 and worked in nearly 225 films. He is best known for his roles in "Parichay", "Sholay", "Abhimaan", and "Shaukeen". The actor made headlines in 2011 when it was revealed that he was struggling for livelihood as his source of income had dried up and there was hardly any money for food or medicine. Following that, many people from the film industry, including actors Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan, offered him financial support. Hangal was last seen in a TV show, "Madhubala", in May.

Azmi graduated from the FTII in 1973 and went on to sign on Khwaja Ahmad Abbas' Faasla and began work on Kanti Lal Rathod's Parinay as well. Her first release, however, was Shyam Benegal's directorial debut Ankur (1974). Belonging to the arthouse genre of neo-realistic films, Ankur is based on a true story which occurred in Hyderabad. Azmi played Lakshmi, a married servant and villager who drifts into an affair with a college student who visits the countryside. Azmi was not the original choice for the film, and several leading actresses of that time refused to do it. The film went on to become a major critical success, and Azmi won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performances. Upperstall. com described her work in the film as "an outstanding psychologically penetrating performance very different from those seen normally till then in mainstream Hindi cinema", and famous independent filmmaker Satyajit Ray commented, "In Ankur she may not have fitted immediately into her rustic surroundings, but her poise and personality are never in doubt. In two high pitched scenes, she pulls out the stops to firmly establish herself as one of our finest dramatic actresses". She went on to receive the National Film Award consecutively for three years from 1983 to 1985 for her roles in movies, Arth, Khandhar and Paar. Another film Godmother (1999) earned her another National Film Award, taking her tally to five. Azmis acting has been characterized by a real-life depiction of the roles

Prince Harry has gotten himself into quite the pickle. (Ew.) Ever since some newly rich dude took and sold photos of Harry playing an innocent game of strip billiards, it was pretty obvious someone else was going to try and cash in on the royal pain. The esteemed people of both Playgirl and Chippendales want Harrys nakedness and are willing to pay a pretty penny for it. I think what we all started to decide right away was just how much money the offers would go out for him, Playgirl publisher Vincent Stevens told E! Online. Theres no way in the world that he would ever consider this but youre talking about numbers in the six figures right off the bat. I think the bidding would start in the low six figures [but] I think a million dollars is not out of the question. Way to go, slick. Preface that Harry would never consider posing for Playgirl, but then tempt him by dropping a fictional million bucks in his lap. Lets be clear, Playgirl has not contacted Harry with any formal offers, but even if they did, Im sure well see a couple of flying corgis before it ever happens. On a smaller, Magic Mike-like scale, two male revues want Harry to play
strip billiards with them minus the pool table. A rep for Chippendales told TMZ, Chippendales at the Rio AllSuite Hotel and Casino are reaching out to the royalty to gauge his interest in being our next guest host. We figured that since he seems to enjoy taking his clothes off in Las Vegas, why not do it on stage at the #1 Male Revue in the World. And Adam Steck, producer of Australias Thunder from Down Under (which showcases Aussies and New Zealanders stripping for Las Vegas fans), told E!, Im not sure his mum would approve. Even though hes not Australian hed be an amazing addition to our cast! I cant imagine the prince posing on a bearskin rug for Playgirl, nor do I think the last thing Harry is worrying about right now is his lack of Aussie-ness, especially since theres a new report that there may be more naked pics of Harry to be had. But say, just say, we lived in a world of unicorns and leprechauns and dragons Harry should definitely go for the Chippendales gig, right? Because nothing says classy like following in the footsteps of Joey Lawrence (whoa!) and Ronnie from Jersey Shore.

where, when some I-Taukei ladies get off their buses for a fair distance walk to their village, they knock on the door of my aunty to seek permission to see Pavitra Rishta because they did not want to miss the programme while walking home. Such is the craze of our free sub-titled Hindi and other popular English programmes that our new station is providing free to our viewers, said a very cheerful and energetic Riyaz Saiyed Khaiyum, the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC). This has been Fijis pioneer radio station which has now branched out as FBC TV, providing those popular programmes, where Riyaz has been still newly appointed, having been in the job for only four years. I had the opportunity to catch up with him in my recent trip to Fiji. Telling about his ordeal when he took over, he thought of running away from a station that was in disarray, very poorly resourced and maintained where they had to use umbrellas in board room
and offices when it rained. They were fortunate that it rained the day Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama called in to see firsthand the dilapidated situation at FBCL and they had to call for umbrellas. It was then decided to inject capital, not only to renew and expand current radio broadcasting capabilities but also to expand and branch out into television. It was a struggle, quite difficult to instil positivity in a situation full of negativities but with a dedicated team, very long hours and hard work, we were able to make it, he said. The success story at FBC since his appointment in 2008 is self-evident, and is an envy and disappointment to those who questioned his appointment to the position. For the first time in FBCs history, a profit of over half a million dollars was posted in the first year of Riyazs appointment. Most Journalists who were hounding me when I started did not want to talk to me about FBCs success when we posted our profits in the first quarter of that year. Our first year profits was more than the accumulated profits for the ten years prior to my arrival in 2008, and we became one of the top performing government commercial companies since 2008, said Riyaz of FBCs success story which continues showing increasing profits for radio operations since 2008. In addition to this success story, FBC has successfully completed the biggest broadcast media upgrade and development in all of South Pacific with state of the art equipment that is not even available in Australasia. Riyaz told about changes he has initiated and things FBC TV is doing differently. Firstly, their world extends beyond Hollywood and Australia. Programmes are sourced from around the world, from Korea, China, India, Canada, Brazil, Iran and, Turkey. My aim is to take Fijians around the world without leaving home, and all programmes have English sub titles, he said. Another thing different is

This is the third year for the GX in its current iteration, and with the last redesign designers didn't push the envelope much. The only real changes to the GX 460 for 2012 include the addition of color-keyed body side molding, and a new highgloss wheel finish for the Premium model. In all, you won't find the GX 460 to be extroverted or flashy, rather organic, and a gently rounded take on the classic SUV proportions
although carrying a 'machined' look from Toyota's larger truck designs that separates it from other Lexus cars and crossovers. Alongside, the GX looks the most 'trucky,' because of its carvedout fenders and very tall, imposing beltline, while inside; the look and layout are upright but definitely up to Lexus standards. With its low running boards, chrome trim all around, and what could be seen as a delicate interior, you might not expect the GX 460 to be a serious rock-crawler. In that, you'd be right; but it's definitely more than another off-road poseur. The full-time fourwheel drive system includes a Torsen center differential and distributes power 60 percent to the rear wheels in normal driving, with more sent to
the rear wheels during acceleration. There's also a low range for this tough body-on-frame ute, a host of electronic controls that will help you maintain control in various conditions, and a true center diff lock that you'd use for sand, mud, or snow. On the road, the 2012 Lexus GX 460 accelerates strongly, with its big, torquey 301-horsepower V-80 to 60 mph in 7.8 secondsand the sixspeed automatic transmission provides quick, smooth shifts. And even though the suspension helps keep it level in corners, light, long-ratio steering and a soft brake pedal enforce the idea that it's a traditional SUV at heart. Fuel economy is, as you might guess, embarrassingly low for a daily driver, at an EPA 15/20 mpg.
In fact, anyone who's driven a truckbased SUV in the past will be right at home in the GX 460. You sit high relative to the beltline, at least compared to other new vehicles, so there's great outward visibility. Seating in the GX 460 is superb in front, with nicely padded seats affording plenty of support plus good headroom and legroom and a general feeling of spaciousness. The second row is very roomy, too. As for the third row, it makes little sense; it's very small, and the power-folding mechanism that's mandatory occupies some of the space behind, keeping the cargo floor from being flat and low. What's more, the side-opening hatch opens on the wrong side for easy curb loading. On the plus side, the GX 460 is supremely refined, with nearly no road and wind noise, although you do hear the engine whenever accelerating, more than some might expect. Ride quality is quite good, whether or not you get the Adaptive Variable Suspension that comes with Premium-grade models, but there's a bit more 'head-toss' on choppy roads. You simply won't have to worry about whether the 2012 Lexus GX 460 comes well-equipped; it comes with all the common convenience and luxury features, while the Premium grade steps up to the rich infotainment features and tech extras. Highlights include a safety-tech package, 330watt Mark Levinson surround sound, a rear seat entertainment system, and Intuitive Park Assist.

Al Kamal Arza Employment Services Ltd www.arza.ca If you are concerned that your company might be planning a layoff, your best course of action is to be prepared. Employees often see warning signs that their jobs may be at risk. Such signs could include poor company performance, earlier rounds of layoffs, conflicts with their manager, increased manager intervention and involvement, and poor performance reviews. Employees see the signs, but arent as proactive as they should be in looking out for their future. Here are steps you
No Guarantees Selling With Online Car Advertisers, Advises BBB advertising and the so-called the
Better Business Bureau (BBB) reports on a number of BC-based companies who target consumers who are selling vehicles with questionable advertising opportunities. If you are selling your vehicle through a classified ad, you may get a call from a company guaranteeing they have a buyer for your vehicle, says Danielle Primrose, President and CEO of Better Business Bureau serving Mainland BC. The approach makes it sound like the company has buyers waiting to buy your vehicle, but the reality is that you are purchasing online advertising that comes with no guarantees. The BBB has received 40 complaints in industry in last 12 months and 81 over the last three years our standard reporting period. Several companies operating out of British Columbia have F ratings with the Better Business Bureau serving Mainland British Columbia. Companies telemarketing their services ask for a fee guaranteeing that the purchaser will pay more than the vehicle is advertised for or they will list your vehicle on their classified site with the promise that if the vehicle is not sold for more within 90 days, you will get your money back. Reports to the BBB show that the vehicle is not sold through
guarantees are not followed through and consumers are out of pocket the funds for the advertising. These companies often require you to submit a signed company form which must also be officially notarized. They also usually require that this be done in a very specific time period after the end of the 90 day period (often 5 or 7 days). The BBB advises consumers to be wary of brokers who "guarantee" auto sales with prearranged buyers and provides the following tips: Ask detailed questions such as: is the buyer specifically interested in your vehicle, rather than a range of similar vehicles? Always understand telemarketing offers and ask for additional documentation. Understand the refund and cancellation policies. You may need to notarize the letter of cancellation and there is us usually a specific time period for cancellation. Check to see if the telemarketing company is licensed through Consumer Protection BC at consumerprotectionbc. ca or 1-888-564-9963. Also, review their Business Review with the Better Business Bureau at mbc.bbb.org. Always read all terms and conditions thoroughly and understand that if an offer seems to be too good to be true, it often is. Consumer Protection BC licenses and regulates certain aspects of the telemarketing industry. For more information please visit www.telemarketingrightsbc.ca.

Warning For Nadroga Players
Nadroga reps need to play in the Fiji Sun/GP Batteries National Football League in order to play in the InterDistrict Championship in October. Nadroga Football president Dr Dhirendra Lal made the call the poor turnout to training as they prepare to face Rewa this weekend. Lal said the team had a good rest last week after their 12-1 beating by Ba Only a few players have turned up this week, it should take another day to regroup and few are down with injuries. Krishneel Dutt is injured from playing against Play Fair Brazil, Maan Singh is down with flu, Vinit Kumar and Tevita Khan are on work commitment, Levi Tawake and Benjamin Rokobaro are also nursing injuries from the last two league games while Ratu Jone cannot be located. Only players taking part in the Fiji/ Sun GP Batteries National Football League games will be considered for the IDC. Koshmick Kumar, former Nadroga player should be joining us for the IDC, otherwise well use our young local talents. Lal added after having played three games in the previous weeks, with two good wins against Tavua and Lautoka and the unfortunate loss against Ba, they would use this weekends game as a build-up for the IDC in October. He added Nadroga officials spoke to their brigade reminding them that the loss to Ba was not the end of the road. This was not a fixed game. If Olympic finalists lose 4-0, whats wrong with Nadro losing 12-1. I agree with players and officials that we put together a team after the regular players couldnt play because of injuries, and suspensions.
New Zealand football club Waitakere United have shot down suggestions Fijian striker Roy Krishna will be back for Labasa FAs Inter District Championship title defense, confirming that the Siberia lad is ineligible for transfer. Waitakere Uniteds media officer, Terry Maddaford said with the new season approaching they wont be granting Krishnas release to play for Labasa. Roy will not be released this time around to play for Labasa as our season starts in October so we wont be risking him, Maddaford said.
He said with the new transfer window system Roy should have been transferred in the July window. It clearly stipulates that Roy should have to move in the July window if he was to play for Labasa, however with the new system he will not be eligible. However, caretaker Labasa president Dip Narayan had not given up hope, keen to continue talks to secure Krishnas services. We will be negotiating with Waitakere United for his release to bolster our chances to defend the IDC title, Narayan said.
The 2012 London Paralympic Games was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. The Queen is the first British monarch to have officiated at the openings of both the Olympic and Paralympic
Games. About 4,000 athletes from 164 countries will be part of the meet. Meanwhile, Fiji sportsman of the year Iliesa Delana will take part next Tuesday in the F42 High jump.

coaster regular season in a league that is often wide open because it separates contenders from pretenders and scrambled play is often the norm. Even in the pressure-packed playoffs, Lack kept the numbers good with a 2-2 record, 2.17 GAA and .917 saves percentage. Thats progress for a guy the Canucks signed as a free agent in 2010 and have enough confidence in to reward a oneway deal in the second year of the pact. Its been a little bit more up and down, Lack told The Province during the AHL playoffs. I started off the season good but wasnt that good in the middle. But I picked it up at the end and its just part of developing and its something you have to go through and learn from and the playoffs have been fun to play with these guys and to go as far as possible. When I wasnt playing that good, I was maybe thinking a little bit too much and trying to do too much instead of just being there. I just calmed myself down a bit and trusted in my own abilities. You have to prove yourself every night and I dont think about the future, I just want to keep going.
Goalie Eddie Lack #76 of the Vancouver Canucks during NHL training camp at Rogers Arena in Vancouver command a goalie in return as part of a Big goalies often look composed on the first save and not so much on the second Roberto Luongo trade package. If the Canucks had any concerns about off a rebound. That challenged Lack but Lacks playing style, the tutelage of if talent has no age, then the 24-yearCanucks goalie coach Rollie Melanson old Lack might not be lacking anything last fall alleviated many concerns and but ongoing maturation. He had a 2.31 so did the 6-foot-5 stoppers solid goals-against average, four shutouts and .925 saves percentage during a rollerseason with the Chicago Wolves.
New Zealand teenage prodigy Lydia Ko left the world's best women's golfers in her wake and re-wrote the history books by winning the Canadian Open in Vancouver. World leading amateur Ko, 15, put the golfing world on notice with a stunning three-shot win at the $US2 million ($A1.93 million) tournament. Leading by a shot after three rounds, she underlined her immense talent and unveiled composure beyond her years with a brilliant birdie-laden back nine to become the youngest ever winner of an LPGA event. She carded the equal-best round of the day, a five-under 67 to finish on
youngest winner - man or woman - of a professional golf tournament when triumphing at the NSW Open aged 14. Ko's nerveless round on Sunday accelerated after carding birdies on the second and sixth holes before a bogey on the seventh. She put her foot down on the back nine to give her big-name rivals - including playing partner and American world No.2 Stacy Lewis - no chance of catching her. Four straight birdies from the 10th to 13th holes were followed by another on the 15th. A bogey on the 18th took nothing away from one of the remarkable achievement.
