he atmosphere in the quaint town of Thurmont, Maryland, with a population of 6,000 residents, changes every year during the second weekend of October when the festivities of the annual Catoctin Colorfest take place. In 1963, when Colorfest began, it started as a nature walk but quickly evolved into a juried arts & crafts show featuring well known and respected artists from across the United States. Catoctin Colorfest has been recognized in Sunshine Artists Magazine and ranked in the top 35 shows in the U.S. and one of the largest on the east coast. Catoctin Colorfests commitment to the community is strongly evident through its Scholarship Program, donations to the Food Bank, the Guardian Hose Co., Thurmont Community Ambulance, Family Movie Night, Christmas Decorations & Summer Garden in Mechanicstown Park, participation and donations to the annual childrens Halloween party, a Memorial Garden in the Community Park and participation in the Memorial Day program. These projects are just a few which Colorfest has supported. The town of Thurmont is located at the base of the beautiful Catoctin Mountains in Frederick County, Maryland. It is easily accessible via route U.S. 15 and is a pleasant scenic drive from points north and south. Thurmont is approximately 50 miles from Washington, D.C., Baltimore, MD and Harrisburg, PA. This years Colorfest will take place in the Thurmont Community Park on Frederick Road. The hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. A morning prayer service will be held in the Park on Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. and breakfast will be available from various food vendors starting at 7:00 a.m. Demonstrations by various crafters will take place throughout the two days, as well as live entertainment by local performers. Shuttle Bus service is available throughout the day from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is free to Colorfest, but a nominal fee is charged at the parking locations throughout town.

Handicap parking is available at the four parking areas. There is no handicapped parking available in the community park. Information and Package Check will be provided by Thurmont Boy Scouts at the Municipal Parking Lot. Chartered buses coming to Colorfest will discharge passengers on West Main Street, then go to one of the designated parking areas where they will stay for the day. They will return to West Main Street to pick up their passengers. Some streets in the downtown area will be closed to vehicular traffic to alleviate some of the congestion and to provide access for emergency vehicles if needed. Please see the map on page 11 of this brochure for a diagram of the closed streets, and for a listing of all the designated Stop and Park areas. Please pay close ATTENTION to the parking signs! All illegally parked vehicles may be ticketed or towed. ATMs will be available at Community Park for the convenience of our exhibitors and visitors. The unit will be located next to the information booth at the entrance to the park and one unit will be at the information booth in the back of the park.
