CALL FOR 2013 WORKSHOP PRESENTATIONS THE LGBTQ BEHAVIORAL HEALTH C OALITION OF SOUTHERN ARIZONA and THE LGBT

CONSORTIUM invite workshop and presentation proposals for the 2nd Annual
Statewide LGBTQ Behavioral Health Conference. Lets Get Better Together: a Quality Look at Behavioral Health System of Care in Arizona will be held April 5, 2013, in Tucson. The theme of the 2013 Lets Get Better Together Conference is INTEGRATING BEST Workshop topics may include, but are not limited to: prevention, early intervention, clinical interventions, peer support, family support, health promotion, the coming out process, mental illness stigma, traumainformed care and suicide prevention. Proposals can also address the intersections between behavioral health and other areas including, but not limited to: LGBT elders and aging, using art therapeutically, safer-sex practices, race and ethnicity, ability, medical needs, tribal communities, educational institutions, the legal system and the criminal justice system. Workshops do not have to focus on all LGBTQ communities, but can focus on individual communities (for example, integrative health for individuals who identify as transgender or peer support for gay men, etc.). Please keep in mind that the Lets Get Better Together Conference is statewide, and proposals should therefore discuss how the presenters plan to be inclusive about reaching participants from all areas in Arizona.

PRACTICES.
The Conference Committee invites workshop or presentation proposals that address the integration of clinical Best Practices into the behavioral health care of adults and children who identify in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual or Two-Spirit populations. Proposals may discuss already-established Best Practices that work well in improving LGBTQ lives and/or promising new practices that are emerging. The Conference Committee is also particularly interested in proposals that address integrated health (primary and behavioral health care) for LGBTQ individuals. What does integrated health care look like for LGBTQ individuals?

LOGISTICS
Workshops are a hands-on experience in which the facilitators will teach the participants something they can translate into their day-to-day work. Presenters can also propose a panel discussion around Integrating Best Practices. The panel still must engage participants in such a way that they can bring information back to their day-to-day work. Each workshop will be 1.5 hours in length. Workshops should not exceed more than two facilitators. Panel discussions should not exceed four presenters.

SUBMITTED PROPOSALS:

Will indicate presentation and/or workshop objective Will be no more than 500 words Will include the name, title of proposal, university or agency affiliation (if applicable), mailing address and e-mail address of each presenter Will include a short, 250-word bio on each presenter Will explain how the presenters will engage participants and how the presentation will not rely solely on Power Point or similar presentation modalities
