The lighting contest is scheduled for Tues, Wed, Thurs December 16, 17 & 18. Myrna
Coleman said she would call newly elected state senator Ken Haar to see if he would help
judge the lighting contest. (Last year city councilman John Spatz helped with the lighting
contest.) The members discussed whether HNA board members could participate in the
lighting contest. The consensus was that if a board member is a judge then they cannot win
anything.

Kris Meek said she is working on the newsletter and they should be delivered on Highlands
homeowner’s doorsteps the weekend of December 6th or13th.

Dates for next year: Highlands Board elections will be at the March meeting
HNA Egg Hunt April 11, 2009

President Myrna Coleman is making arrangements for speakers for next year. She asked the
members to let her know their suggestions for speakers. Mark Canney of Lincoln Parks and
Rec will come in Jan. or Feb. Members suggested that she invite someone from LES to
speak about the rate increase and energy conservation tips, someone from City Water Dept.
on water conservation and Steven Frayser on changes at the Tech Park. They also suggested
inviting the police with information on Crime Stoppers.

Board member Bill Schlautman said that he will not be a board member next year because
he and his wife are expecting a baby in May but he will still help with the pool party. Bill
gave us an update on the local schools. He said that construction is currently going on at
Fredstrom for all day kindergarten and Schoo middle school should open next fall.

Joel Sasek, owner of JC Plus Plumbing and a Highlands resident since 1982, shared
information on Project Serve. He said four churches got together last year to serve Lincoln.
The members did service projects to beautify the city on a Saturday morning and Sunday
afternoon. Mr. Sasek would like to get Highlands’s churches or residents together to work
in the neighborhood. They plan to do this again next year on October 10, 2009. Mr. Sasek
asked that any interested resident or Highlands’s area church contact him at 610-5179.

The next meeting will be Monday, December 15 at 7:30 pm at Fredstrom School. This
meeting adjourned at 9 pm.
