Ng mihi nui ki a koutou Greetings to you all, Congratulations to our Milo Cricket Team on their recent win against Te Kauwhata; they are now on to the next stage in the qualifying for the Milo Shield. Following their game on Monday we received a lovely email from a teacher at Te Kauwhata College congratulating the team on their behaviour and attitude when they played against Te Kauwhata. The teacher commented on how the team wore their uniforms with pride, were lovely to watch and a great bunch of boys; along with the fantastic parent help that the team had to support them. It is always wonderful to have such positive feedback that reflects our school vision Kia U Ki Te Pai; well done to the boys, their parents/whanau and the team supporters.

School Merit Programme:

Our school merit programme has been developed to encourage students to diversify their skills and strengths, to broaden their horizons and to support our focus on developing the emerging adolescence and our school vision. The programme supports student development of the key competencies from the New Zealand Curriculum and the schools core values in such areas as: self-motivation, self-managing skills, goal setting, perseverance, commitment, dedication, team work, respect, integrity, honesty, personal pride. Students are able to achieve points over their two years at Intermediate, through their involvement with various activities and school events in the sporting, academic, cultural and civic duty areas. Students have to demonstrate not just skill or turning up for the activity, but commitment and dedication to this. In each area the teacher in-charge will look at certain qualities to ensure the students meet the expectations we have. Examples of this include: In sports: students should demonstrate fair play, sportsmanship, commitment and team spirit. In Cultural activities: have good attendance, a positive attitude, participation and commitment to the group/activity. In the Academics: to be motivated to learn, show perseverance and working to the expected level. In Civics: demonstrating a dedicated and honest commitment to duties or services at MIS. Students must show punctuality, honesty and reliability. Teachers go through this regularly with students, work alongside students to track their points, help set goals and to ensure that students are aware of what is happening. We do keep the merit programme to activities that are school related, as it becomes unmanageable from our end, to ensure that the allocation of points is fair, consistent and transparent; and only we decide on the allocation of points. The merit programme has gone from strength to strength. When I talk to ex-students it is often one of the things they always mention in their highlights from their time at intermediate; even if they just tried one new thing that they never had done before.

Principal Chat:
A reminder that there is an open invitation for parents and whanau to come and have a coffee and chat on Friday 5th April at 11am. This is completely informal and gives us an opportunity to talk about aspects of learning and general school life at Morrinsville Intermediate. Nku noa, Vicky Marshall (Acting Principal)

Another win for MILO CRICKET !

MIS Milo Cup cricket team headed off to Te Kauwhata to play their second match for the Milo Cricket Cup. MIS lost the toss and were sent into bat on a dewy outfield and with long boundaries. After loosing a wicket on the first ball of the innings Jack Devane (50 off 45 balls not out retired) and Keiren Price (35) had an excellent partnership and then innings finished off nicely by Luke Meiklejohn and Sam Houghton to set up a good score of 124 off 20 overs. With some excellent bowling right from the start Te Kauwhata regularly lost wickets and were all out for 44 off 14 overs. Bowler of the Day Keegan Hamerton with 5 wickets for 9 runs off 4 overs and assisted by Jack Devane 2 wickets for 3 runs off 3 overs and Ryan Arnold 2 wickets for 3 runs off 2 overs. Well done boys!
